Formed in 1974,
Albuquerque Whippet Fanciers Association is the oldest lure
coursing club in New Mexico. Their first official meeting was at
the wedding of two of the original members and sighthound
enthusiasts.
AWFA
is a small club. But, it is an active club and holds AKC lure
coursing tests and trials among other activities, which include
CGC tests, the occasional match, etc.
The lure coursing events are held in the spring, usually
April, and autumn, usually October, when the weather and
temperatures are most conducive to safely running sighthounds.
Large entries with associated majors are usually pulled in
Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Saluki, and oftentimes, Greyhounds.
All approved sighthound breeds are welcome and membership is
open to those without whippets.
For more information on lure coursing events, please contact Elissa
Thompson, Field Trial Secretary, or check out our calendar.
