Today, there are two lure coursing clubs
in the Albuquerque vicinity. They are the Albuquerque
Whippet Fanciers Association, an AKC affiliate and
former ASFA affiliate, and the East Slope Coursing
Association, an ASFA
affiliate. Both clubs have run lure coursing trials,
which are limited to the sighthound breeds, since the
sport's inception back in the early 1970's.
Breeds allowed to participate in ESCA
events are: Afghan hounds, Azawahks, Basenji, Borzoi,
Cirneco Dell Etnas, Greyhounds, Ibizan hounds, Irish
Wolfhounds, Italian Greyhounds, Peruvian Inca Orchids,
Pharaoh hounds, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Saluki, Scottish
Deerhounds and Whippets.
AKC eligible breeds are limited to those
sighthound breeds recognized by the AKC: Afghans,
Basenji, Borzoi, Greyhounds, Ibizan hounds, Irish
Wolfhounds, Pharaoh hounds, Rhodesian Ridgebacks,
Saluki, Scottish Deerhounds and Whippets.
