To Dee

            A Cowboy's Love
The cowboy rode into the wind,
his collar turned up over his neck.
            He hardly noticed the cold,
            his mind in another place.

            He daydreamed of a meadow,
            filled with wildflowers.
            And the warm Texas sun,
            shining brightly on his face.

            He closed his eyes,
and could almost feel her touch.
            Her soft lips
            pressed against his.

            A longing for her
            welled up in his soul.
            His heart longingly
            ached for her love.

            The cowboy opened his eyes,
and pulled back on the reins.
            He looked into the stars,
            and whispered her name.

            The cold wind blew
            by him in a gust.
            Carrying her name
            with it across the prairie.

            The cowboy urged
            his horse forward.
            Towards West Texas,
and the lady of his dreams.

            She was awakened
in the deep of the night.
            A gust of cold wind,
            blowing through her room.

            She opened her eyes,
            and listened to the wind.
            Trembling with emotion,
she reached out into the darkness.

            She was certain,
            that she had heard it,
            her cowboy softly
            whispering her name.

            She closed her eyes
            and was soon back asleep.
            A smile on her face,
            and warmth in her heart.

            She dreamed of a meadow,
            filled with wildflowers.
            And the warm Texas sun.
            shining brightly on her face.

            An Afternoons Dream

            Feeling restless inside,
            and not able to sleep.
            I saddled up my horse,
            and rode out before dawn.

            Over the pasture,
            and beyond the woods.
            Across the wildflower meadow,
            and to the mountain.

            Riding hard and fast,
            climbing higher,
            and higher still,
            with the rising sun.

            Driven on to
            a familiar place,
            stopping, near a quiet
            mountain stream.

            My back against
            a tall, old tree,
            my eyes closed,
            and sleep came to me.

            My dreams were of you,
            and moonlight walks.
            Holding your hand,
            and listening to you.

            Candlelight dinners,
            and special times.
            Slow dancing with you,
to the music in our hearts.

            A life of happiness,
            and dreams come true.
            Tears now and then,
            but shared with you.

The warmth of the noon sun,
            woke me from my sleep.
            My heart set free,
            by an afternoon's dream.
