Criteria for Gloriana's Class Act Award

Gloriana's Class Act Awards honour sites that stress content rather than merely web wizardry. In a few cases, I have included sites that have less content than others, but which are particularly elegant in their design...but not too often!

Any site that is linked to mine is invited to display the Class Act Award. These winners are a rich sampler of those that make "surfing" a special pleasure.

I greatly enjoy reviewing spots that are nominated for this award. However, please be patient! The volume of nominations is high, and I carefully check each spot. It may be three to four weeks before you receive a response from me, and I cannot always respond to those who are not winners.

I should like recipients of the Class Act award to see it as recognition of exceptional creativity and content. Unlike some other awards on the WWW, it definitely is not given to all sites that apply, nor even to some that are very nicely designed. There are awards I myself have received that I greatly value because they were given with consideration, but I shall admit that those I know are truly difficult to obtain are those which I cherish the most. I should like mine to be a prestigious award.

Obviously, there can be no totally original topic on the Internet - not with perhaps eight million sites from which to choose. However, if your site is about a topic with which everyone has been deluged (and many "health and fitness" sites, especially, are in that category), yours is not what I seek for this page. Nor am I interested in personal sites entirely about who you are and what friends you've found on the Web.

The class act awards are for a degree of originality that will allow readers some fun or reflection on new areas.

There now is a special section for students' sites. I believe that students may have a special interest in viewing each other's work, and would be happy to receive submissions specifically for that category. (I bend the rules a bit about who may receive the award in this special category.)

As an aside, I myself may not have knowledge of the areas represented by the sites that have received the award. Several of the outstanding sites I have listed deal with recovery resources for sexual abuse, and I have received inquiries about the topic. Much as I would love to help, it is not an area in which I am knowledgeable, nor one with which I have experience. I also have presented the award to several beautifully designed sites that have Wiccan information - of which I, a Catholic, know nothing beyond what I have read on the sites.

None of the sites are "adult". Believing, as I do firmly, in freedom of speech, I believe that web authors need to rate or classify their sites, and, with mine most definitely a safe surf, I would not wish anyone to be able to access X-rated material through a link here. (Nor do I consider such material to be a "class act" in any sense!) You also will find no offensive material - there is no room for hatred here.

Of course, I am not responsible for the content of sites that receive my award. I may not agree with the viewpoints of their authors, but am hoping that everyone will find their content as interesting as I have.

And please do look at a few of them before you E-mail me to nominate your own site!
