Molly the first, in the pet store

          Brown eyes shining bright
          Silky golden fur so soft
          Torn away from me

I was born in March 1996.  Jenny told me that before I was born, she wanted a puppy very bad. For Christmas 1995, she got a puppy as a present and named her Molly.  Like many naive pet-wanters, they didn't know where else to buy her from except from a pet store.  Molly was probably from a Japanese puppy mill.  At the pet store, her little cage was barely 3 feet wide by 2 feet high.  They took her home and loved her very much.. she was the sweetest dog they ever knew.  The time was short... she had only lived there for two weeks.  One day, she got very, very sick.  The vet said she had hereditary distemper, the result of careless breeding.  For puppies, the chance of survival of distemper is very low.  The vet decided she had no chance and was going through a lot of pain, and they put her to sleep. Many of her sisters and brothers at the pet store were never even bought.  Jenny says they probably had distemper too.  I hope Molly remembers life on Earth as being loved and having a home, instead of the coldness of the pet store.  I know I'll see her waiting for me and Jenny at the rainbow bridge...

          Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they each miss someone very special, someone who was left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly, he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass, faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into those trusting eyes, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together...
