River Kwai Bridge Week or The Death Railway

Each year in late November to early December, the world famous River Kwae Bridge built by Allied prisoners-of-war during World War II, becomes the focal point of celebrations. Event highlights include historical and archaeological exhibits, a carnival, folk and cultural performances, rides on World War II vintage trains, and a spectacular light and sound presentation re-enacting the bridge's World War II legacy.

MEXICAN SUNFLOWER BLOOMING SEASON

Doi Mae U-kor, Mae Hong Son
The hills and valleys of Mae Hong Son turn golden when the Mexican Sunflower (Tithonia Diversifolia) come into bloom this month.When the flowers fade, the seeds are used to make insecticides, The scene of blooming sunflowers is at its most photogenic at Doi Mae U-kor in Amphoe Khun Yuam.

NORTHERN LANTERN FESTIVAL AND YIPENG ROI KRATHONG

Little floats with candles are set adrift on the river under the full moon, creating a mesmerising sight. In addition, there are float contests, a beauty contest, and the launch of Lanna-style hot-air ballons.

TAK LOI KRATHONG SAI
Tak Municipality Office, Tak
Loi Krathong, Thailand’s lovely annual “Festival of Lights” on the full moon night in November, is celebrated in a unique manner in Tak. Local people thread together their krathongs which are launched simultaneously and appear as lighted necklaces on the Ping River.

Held annually, this dazzling event on the mighty Mekong River marks the end of the Ok Phansa (Buddhist Lent ) by the launching of elaborately adorned boats, each containing assorted offerings, adrift on the river when night falls. Festivities are further enhanced with a colourful street procession and cultural performances for everyone to enjoy.

Organized by the Patong Beach Tourism Business Club, this festival features watersports contests, traditional Thai foods & beverages, a Miss Andaman beauty contest (foreign guests only), and entertainment.
