Poetry: Peace in Nature

WHY CAN'T WE?

My world is filled with wildlife,

trees, flowers, water, animals,

BIRDS OF ALL COLORS -

Red

Brown

White

Black

Orange

Blue

Tan

Green

Gray

Despite their size or color

they live in harmony.

Why can't we?

By Samantha Hendrix, age 9, 1997

IN THE HEART OF A CHILD

In the heart of a child

a seed is sewn;

a seed watered by love,

fed by knowledge, and

nurtured by acceptance.

In the heart of a child

the caretaker of the seed -

ever present -

stands in the shadows.

In the heart of a child

the seed grows;

the plant stands tall

and is strong.

In the heart of a child

the flowers of world peace

bloom daily

in every color of the rainbow.

In the heart of a child

a common bond

to the caretaker is felt -

oneness with all mankind.
