Wonderful
Web Site Award
Offered to
the Best of the Web

This
award will be given to any site that meets my very subjective criteria on
wonderful web sites. If you have what you think is a nicely designed,
informative web site (and if it's in Geocities, meets all the content
guidelines), please feel free to apply.
What Will
Qualify
This
is a list of the admittedly prejudiced factors I will be looking for when
choosing whether or not to offer the award to your site:
- Attractiveness:
The site must be pleasing to the eye, with no clashing or unreadable text, and
the background must not give me a headache. Or worse.
- Content:
The site has to have some information. In other words, it can't be just a list
of links to elsewhere. It also should not be just a page of graphics.I want to
learn and/or enjoy while I'm at your site.
- Loading
speed:
The page cannot take five minutes to load. Of course, net
traffic will be taken into account when I look at your page, so don't worry
about that. Make sure the graphics are kept small, and watch the use of animated
graphics...too many will disqualify you.
- ALT
Tags:
All images must have the ALT Tag, and the Height and Width
of the graphic filled in.
- Spelling
Counts:
Glaring typographical errors will disqualify your site.
- Browser
Compatibility:
Your page must be viewable in both of the major
browsers (Netscape and Explorer). If your site is specific to one, it's an
automatic disqualification. If you use tags specific to one or the other, make
sure your page still looks good in the one not reading those tags (i.e., the
marquee tag, blink tag, etc.)
- Blink:
Even though I hate it, I will not automatically disqualify your page for ONE
blink tag, but any more, and I probably will.
- HTML
Errors:
Glaring HTML errors show carelessness, and I will not
offer this award for carelessness. Please make sure all tags are closed, there
are no extra tags, and so on and so forth. A good way to find the little
mistakes is to visit Dr. HTML
to check before you apply.
- Java
and JavaScript:
Crash my browser because of it, and no award for
you. Limit it for your best chances.
- Easy
Navigation:
I don't want to use my Back button on my browser to
get around, so make sure you have links to all your pages, on every page, and
preferably in the same spot.
- Geocities
Sites:
Make sure you have NO Content Violations on your pages.
This includes a link back to Geocities or your neighborhood on every page.
Please make
sure before applying that your site isn't in violation.
