Las Maņanitas Tapatias
If Las Mananitas is for birthdays, Christmas and the Virgin de Guadalupe, what corrido is for Saints' Days? Where can I find the lyrics and MIDI? Any others out there? I already have Malaguena and Las Mananitas.

A friend writes: Chicano is a term for people moving to the US after Porfirio Diaz fell in 1910. Texicans of hispanic descent and culture are of 2 basic groups. Canary Island settlers brought hispanic culture to Texas. Native Texans were educated in this culture by Franciscan Brothers at Roman Catholic Missions. Other Native Americans settling in Northern Mexico are Seminole/Negro tribes and Kickapoo, invited as a buffer between Apaches and Mestizos. The term "Chicano," originally unknown and not historically used in Texas, means trailer trash to the hispanic Texan with his own proud heritage. The term was used by Mexican settlers in Arizona and California but not Texas. Thus was the birth of the misuse of historical terminology. A Texican of hispanic origin admonished that "all us chicanos must stick together," threw the so called Chicanos out of his house. Recent use of the term and supposed honors bestowed by naming streets after Cesar Chavez are considered an abomination compared to honors earned by Texicans of hispanic descent. They don't belong in Texas. Norteņo, Ranchero, Bolero and salsa are terms acceptable in Texas, NOT Chicano.
