Hello, I'm Eric. I plan to eventually write something profound and lengthily on this page. However, the time pressures of being a recent graduate, working full time at a temporary job, and searching for a full time position have required some changes in the activities which get to occupy my time. This past May I graduated from Hampshire College, with a self-designed concentration in cognitive science. My thesis was on internal visual imagery and hemisphere laterality which I find utterly fascinating. Hampshire is one of the most impressive and successful institutions which I've been able to observe. It's a truly radical school - there are no grades, no tests, and few required courses. Instead, each student designs his or her course of study in conjunction with two or more faculty members, and all work is done in the form of papers, experiments, and even performances. It is certainly a writing intensive education. Perhaps what is most distinctive, and what I like the most about Hampshire is that it requires it's students to be proactive in designing their education. It certainly changes people, for the better, more pervasively than any other college I've observed.
I consider myself a futurist, in the strongest sense of the word. I'm fascinated my individuals like Marshal McLuhan, Alvin Toffler, and Buckminster Fuller. Buckminster Fuller, more than any other individual has a uncannily successful track record at predicting world changing events and technologies.
Some of my hobbies include neuro-linguistic programming, book collecting, and reading about cognitive neuroscience. This picture of my sister Rachel and I was taken in Princeton NJ, shortly after graduation. Rachel and I complement each other well. She's interested in professional theater, watches an inhuman amount of TV, and is having a fairly well adjusted high school experience. I wasn't well adjusted until I arrived at college, hate TV, and have interests in the sciences and social sciences. She's also a technophobe, and I have a techno-obsession. We are still rather close, especially for siblings who see each other about twice a year.
Here I am with my friend Steve Gevurtz at a reception following the graduation ceremony. Other living individuals who command my respect and admiration include Noam Chomsky, Richard Bandler, and Robert Anton Wilson. Other dead ones include William Burroughs, Gregory Bateson, and Timothy Leary. Musical favorites include Psychic TV, Coil, TG,
