cowering

cowering and cringing
in her own little corner.
fear has taken her over.
he’s having one of his fits again.
with the look in his eyes
she knows what’s next.
she’s becoming accustomed to the beatings.

again and again his fist hits her face
leaving eternal marks on her.
he can’t control his anger,
it’s being thrown upon her.
simply because she was there,
simply because she was weaker than him.

her scream breaks the silence in the air.
she cries out again for compassion
but he beats her all the more.
finally with one punch, she falls to the floor
unconsious.

over and over his thoughts turn in his head,
justifying his sin,
blaming it on her.
but deep within he knows who’s wrong.
