so much to lose

childhood dreams shattered
along the thorns of a hopeless life...
his words echo through again.
and you feel the heartache again.
the scars of his abuse weigh
heavy upon your soul...

so much to be,
  so much to attain,
so much to lose...
as you replay it again.
  your innocence stolen,
  your conscious seared
with the violence of a thousand generations.
and you watch it over and over,
  the memory lives.

you scream at the wall.
you scream at your kids.
you raise your fist to your wife...
but it all seems to do little.
your heart still burns with the pain
that he thrust into your soul
with each hateful word he spoke,
with each scar he left you with...
