Sunday, October 26, 1997 -- Starting to get a handle on things

We went swimming again yesterday. The water was rough, and cold, and knocked us over. So I lay on the beach while Azura went for shells. The trip down Friday wasn't great. It was raining most of the way, and water was standing on the roads. It wouldn't be too bad, but Azura's car has a hole in the floorboard, which occasionally would spray us (even thought we had a towel and a foot over it).

We didn't stay up much later than my parents. This 6am schedule has been getting to both of us. I even went to be a little early.

The next morning I talked over wedding plans with Mom, and she suggested some places we could look. All in all she was a cold fish about the whole thing. I got kind of quiet, and let Azura talk. I guess I was a little upset by the total lack of enthusiasm on my Mom's part.

She decided to come with us, as we searched for things, and even took us to breakfast. She pointedly told Azura, "I don't want to like you. I do like you, but I don't want to. That's why I seem to not be enthusiastic about this whole thing." I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. At least she likes Azura. I think she'll be sold on the wedding idea soon enough.

We went to a party place, and got some prices for tents, and went next door to look at invitations, and so on. I still want to print those myself, but we did see a pretty card that reflected our personalities. We then went to a couple of nice houses in downtown wilmington, and thought about what it would be like to have the wedding there.

Basically, we found one we think we'd like, if we could have gotten inside, or known the price. The yard was wonderful, and it had handicap access, and we didn't think it was too expensive. It may turn out to be the cheapest way to go.

After we were done with that, Azura and I decided to go to the beach. Really, we just wanted to get away from my parents for awhile, and be alone. We drove down to Kure beach, and then to Ft. Fisher. I didn't want to swim there because of the large rocks, and the fishermen, so we drove back up to Wrightsville beach, and relaxed there. We made it home in time for dinner.

I sat and started my cross stitch, and watched TV, just talking to my parents about different things, and, eventually, we all went to bed.

I tried, unsuccessfully, to sleep in this morning, but still woke up early. My body has learned those rhythms again. Azura and I packed up the car, and headed over to my grandparents.

We told them that we were getting married, and my grandmother said, "That's fine, but only if you do it so I can go." Then we turned to my grandfather, and told him we might want to have it there. He said it would be great (the exact opposite of what Mom thought he would say). I now have to have it in Wilmington. It would break my heart if my grandmother couldn't go, just because we held it too far away.

We drove home in the misty rain, and got ready for a new week.
