WET 41: The Totem Pole

.this WET 41 ws a little late, but I did it anyway! I used 2 of the 3 images...couldn't quite fit that automotive pup into this one. :)

My totem pole was created by resizing the little idol (not in proportion), then rotating it 90 degrees to add a wood grain effect. I then rotated him back to vertical. I copied and adjusted hue/saturation/lightness on several versions of the little (Russian?) roly-poly figure, then placed them vertically in a new image, chiseled them, rotated them, woodgrained them, put them back upright, and finally copied this image and added it as a new layer to the idol. I merged these and smudged a bit in places to blend better.

The sky and ground background were made using pattern fill, Gaussian and motion blurs, and circle deformations, with a bit of spray paint for clouds; while the alien looking "trees" were created with individual paintbrush strokes (vertical, horizontal, left and right slants), woodgrain texture, lasso selection, and layers of fill that had been blurred and had noise added. I then copied the finished "totem pole" and pasted it on the background, adding a bit of drop shadow to soften the edges.

Everything on this page was done in Paint Shop Pro 5, using only the original filters and functions supplied with the program.

This is a smaller version of the original image posted for us to use. Thank you!
