WET 59: A Kit for Rita

Hi all. Greetings to you in the new decade! My old computer survived the new year's turning (and so did I--root beer floats not withstanding!), so here I am.

I created my image for this week's WET with Rita in mind. :) Rita is an artist who posts regularly to the alt.binaries.comp-graphics group...and she's also an ardent quilter. She does like to make those quilts, so I thought I'd make a kit for her to use! :)

The fabrics here were all made from bits of the WET images. Most of the dark center piece was a section of the bucket, rotated, layered, and blended a few times. (The green color was a result of using the difference function for 2 of the blendings.) The 4 corners of that square were made from a section of the ice, which was then color adjusted to match the green tones.

The other fabrics, going clockwise from the top left, were made from 1) symmetrical seamless tile (SST) from the napkin; 2)SST from gold foil at the top of the bottle; 3) SST from the "gage" in Mortgage; 4) SST from the knob on the manila envelope; 5) SST from the gable on the old picture of a house; 6) SST from the barrel of the pen; and 7)SST negative color image of partial beach home scene.

I scanned the scissors and an old wooden spool of silk thread (Corticelli) which is one of my treasured keepsakes from my Grandma's sewing things. The pins and needle were created on a separate layer by overlapping strokes of the line tool at 1 antialiased for each "sharp," then embossing and drop shadowing the layer.

Please do take time to click on the thumbnail above to see the full image. I saved it at a rather low compression because I wanted to keep the gloss and texture of the thread, so it may take a few seconds longer to download--but I think it's worth the wait!

Here are .jpg versions of the ice bucket and symmetrical seamless tiles I made. You are welcome to use them for wallpaper or page backgrounds, and I'd appreciate a link to this site if you do! Thanks. Diane :}
