Kerosene Then Is Refined To Remove Impurities Such As Sulfur Compounds And Certain Hydrocarbons, Called Aromatic Hydrocarbons. Because The Aromatics Cause Kerosene To Smoke, Kerosene For Lighting And Heating Must Have A Low Aromatic-Hydrocarbon Content .

Kerosene Is Used Widely In The Aviation Industry As Fuel For Jet Engines. It Is Being Increasingly Used In Heating Stoves. For Safety, Kerosene For Heating Must Have A Minimum Flash Point (Temperature At Which It First Gives Off A Flash Of Flame) Of 120 Degree Fahrenheit (49 Degrees Celsius).
