After numerous personal disappointments in New York City, Robin and Jane set off on a cross country trip. But they first stop in Pittsburgh to visit Jane's friend Holly. Holly's involved in an abusive relationship with her junkie boyfriend Nick, and when Jane appears at their dilapidated home, she finds Nick beating Holly and accusing her of theft. Jane attempts to take Holly with her, but Nick violently intervenes. When Robin hears all the commotion, she miraculously saves the day by calming Nick down, and then binding him to a chair while Holly packs her bags. However, as the three women travel west, Jane spies Nick's photograph in a newspaper -- with an obituary. Now Robin, Jane and Holly must decide whether to turn themselves in, or run away from the law and begin a new life.
