New Zealand - Pictorial Tour
Will try to start at the beginning with this. Or as close to the beginning as I can get. If you get bored, I don't blame you! This is the modern version of supper and the slide show but easier to get out of. LOL
Church in Wahai Maori Village as seen from Lake Taupo.
These are the natural thermal springs of Tokaanu. They bubble and hiss, spray water, steam, and mud and smell to high heavens of sulphur!! I had to wait for 10 minutes for the breeze to part the mist to get this shot! LOL Who said i was impatient?
This is Mt. Ruapehu. The one Pam and Merv drug me kicking and screaming up the ski lift. LOL Just kidding, guys!! But I did have very white knuckles and it wasn't from the cold. (I'm afraid of heights!) The view was fantastic!!
This is part of a waterfall on the above mountain. Its source was the very top peaks and even though it was small in width, it was very long and spectacular!
New Zealand makes good use of the many geothermal areas found there. This is just one of the power plants located in Wairakei generating electricity for the country from the steam trapped beneath the surface of the earth. New Zealand is still the home of active volcanoes!! (Scary for this MN gal!)
Huka Falls!! My most memorable experience! This water flows out of Lake Taupo and rages for many many miles over numerous spectacular falls. The volume and spead with which this water travels in almost beyond comprehension! Magnificent!!!
The faithfull dog gaurding the sheep? Looks more like intimidation to me! LOL Was given the opportunity to see a real sheep farm in Feilding. Thank you so much, Kelvin and Caryl. You were a delight to meet and the warmth of your welcome was unsurpassed!
These are examples of two more hot pools from geothermal fields we stopped at on the way to Rotorua. I just looked at my notes for my impressions. My description was "Hot day, long walk, big stink!" LOL Sorry guys! It looks better on film than it smells! The whole experience is quite mind boggling.
This is a fabulous light show at the Orchid Gardens in Rotorua. The lights and fountains are all synchronized to music and is spectacular! There are many colors and designs but always seemed to catch the yellow ones!
Can you tell I had a new camera? LOL Wanted to experiment with close ups. They were all off center!! Oops!! You can't tell that since I edited them! This is the other half of the Orchid Garden. Have never seen so many beautifull orchids!
A small sample is all you get for now. May add more later.
At this point, I must express my heartfelt thanks to my host and hostess (Pam and Merv Hunt) for making me feel like part of their family. I have never felt so at home even in the homes of my long standing friends. They welcomed me with open arms and hearts and have not let go since. Thank you, Pam and Merv. I love you both dearly!
