NEW ZEALAND DREAMIN'

As many of you know, I ventured to New Zealand to meet a lovely couple I met on ICQ. I had a marvelous time and am now presenting you with the promised pages. The following is an excert from a story I wrote about my actual travel experience and the thoughts that ran thru my mind at the time. It was meant to be an introduction to the New Zealand pages. It got way too long. If you would like to see the whole story, just e-mail me and i will be happy to send it to you. (warning: it is 6 pages long.) Hope you enjoy them!

FLIGHT FRIGHT!

It is 10 a.m. on the morning of my departure and Pam has just dropped me at the airport. I need to get my bags checked in and then I will have to wait most of the day for my flight to leave. It is going to be a very long day!

Stepping up to the ticket counter, my heart is racing with excitement. I have never been out of the country before and am feeling quite proud of the fact that I have managed the whole complicated procedure of acquiring a passport and booking my flight reservations entirely on my own! What finesse I must have! I am truly the intelligent, independent, adventurous woman I have always dreamed of becoming.

I proudly hand over my plane tickets for confirmation of my reservations. When the ticket agent asks to see my passport, I produce it with a flourish. She glances at it and says, "Very nice, but you haven't signed it." Haven't signed it? I was supposed to sign it? So much for new found pride! My confidence lay in tiny shattered peices all around my feet. Does this mean I won't be allowed to go?

She then says, "What time would you like to fly out?" "What do you mean, what time?" I reply in astonishment. "Don't I have reservations on the 4 p.m. flight?"

Smiling patiently, she explains that, indeed, I do have reservations for the 4 p.m. flight but that it may be wiser to fly out on an earlier flight to be sure I make my connection in Chicago. Staring at her in total confusion, I agree to an earlier flight.

"Which flight would you like?" she asks. "Which flight? You're the ticket agent! How in bloody hell do you expect me to know? I am just the confused, lost and rapidly becoming scared shell of the confident, adventurous, independent woman who stepped up to this counter a few minutes ago. Just make the changes and tell me where I am going!" I think to myself.

There are 5 more pages to this drama! Like I said, if you want to read them, let me know!
