SAVE TIBET

Tibet was a distinct nation and maintained its own government, religion, language, laws and customs. Over the centuries, some countries, including China, Britain, and Mongolia have sought to exert control over Tibet, with periodic and partial success. International legal scholars agree that from 1911 until the Chinese invasion in 1949, Tibet was a fully independent state by modern standards. Since then, Tibetans have struggled to regain their freedom and keep their culture intact. PLEASE HELP TENZIN DELEK RINPOCHE AND LOBSANG DHONDUP

In April 2002 Tenzin Delek Rinpoche and Lobsang Dhondup were arrested and charged with involvement in a series of explosions in Sichuan Province. They were held incommunicado until their December 2002 trial, where they were convicted of "conspiring to cause a series of explosions" and "incitement to separatism," and sentenced to death. On January 26, 2003, the Sichuan Provincial Court rejected Tenzin Delek Rinpoche's appeal. Lobsang Dhondup was executed the same day. Tenzin Delek Rinpoche is currently being held in Tuandong Prison, Sichuan.

The circumstances surrounding this case indicate that the prosecution of Tenzin Delek Rinpoche is politically motivated. He built monasteries, schools and homes for the elderly in his community in eastern Tibet. His leadership outside the Communist Party made him a political target. To date, the Chinese authorities have not produced any credible evidence of Tenzin Delek Rinpoche's involvement in the explosions, and the prosecutions have not met minimum standards of due process. A smuggled tape made by Tenzin Delek Rinpoche asserted, "Whatever the authorities do and say, I am innocent."

On 26 January 2005, Tenzin Delek's controversial death sentence was commuted to life imprisonment. However, the case has yet to be resolved justly.

The International Campaign for Tibet calls for the immediate release of Tenzin Delek Rinpoche and urges governments to explicitly raise his case and that of other Tibetan political prisoners with the Chinese authorities.

We ask for your help to release Tenzin Delek Rinpoche:

Send an email to Li Zhaoxing (the Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs) and ask him to release Tenzin Delek Rinpoche.

Send a message to your friends. Please contact your friends, let them know about this gross breach of justice, and urge them to take action to push for Tenzin Delek Rinpoche's release.

Support the International Campaign for Tibet and our efforts to free all Tibetan political prisoners.

Today, the movement to help Tibetans is growing, as public awareness, and public outrage builds. World governments are beginning to recognize the atrocities, and to address them. But Tibet is entirely dependent on grass-roots support, and we need your help.

Leaders of Tibet groups and projects have developed effective ways for westerners to support Tibet and the Tibetan struggle. Listed below are a few of the best ongoing campaigns and projects. These campaigns make a difference in the lives of Tibetans inside Tibet and in exile. They represent a spectrum of strategies and efforts of people who care about Tibet, and want to do something practical to help. On the weekend of March 9 - 11, 1996, many of the leaders of these campaigns gathered in Washington to push these initiatives forward, and broaden support for Tibet.

The Tibetan Flag is displayed on this webpage as a part of an international appeal for the people of that country.
May all beings be endowed with happiness.
May all beings be free from suffering.
May all beings never be seperated from happiness.
May all beings abide in equanimity.
