A Tribute To Jackyl
All albums reviewed by me, if you have a review for an album,
send it in so I can put it up here.
Jackyl's first album is unquestionably their best. Released in 1992 by Geffen Records, the album is a hard rock party from opening track I Stand Alone, to closer She Loves My Cock. The album was well received, and hit platinum status (over a million sold), and is still selling. Produced by Brendan O'Brien, this album is the ultimate rock album, and for anyone who doesn't know of Jackyl, is a great place to start.
I Stand Alone
Dirty Little Mind
Down On Me
When Will It Rain
Redneck Punk
The Lumberjack
Reach For Me
Back Off Brother
Brain Drain
Just Like A Devil
She Loves My Cock
This CD Maxi Single was released as a CD single to (DUH) When Will It Rain. Not sure if it is still available, I think that only a certain number were produced. Released in 1993, and produced by Brendan O'Brien, this CD contains various versions of the hit song, plus one unreleased song. Great to get just for a collector's item.

Jackyl's second album Push Comes To Shove, is definately my fave album by the band. Being commercially not as successful as it's predecessor (only reaching gold status), I'm really surprised that not many people like this album as well as the first. Song's such as Headed For Destruction, My Life, Secret Of The Bottle, etc. all rock hard and proud. Released by Geffen in 1994, and this time around produced by Bruce Fairbairn. Definately a great party record that will make all fans of southern rock proud.

I will admit that this album just SMOKES!!!! Great to see a live album done by a band that is actually recorded live without any overdubs. The only gripe I have about this album, is that it should have been released later. The lack of material that the band has shows on this CD, which was recorded on New Year's Eve in Dallas/Ft. Worth Texas. However, the song selection is great, and the production is just fantastic. I think that they just should have waited to make this album after the next one, but we all know that it was a thing to do by the band while they moved from Geffen to Epic. Released in 1996 by Mayhem Records. Mine's autographed (as you can see in the above scan).

Jackyl's latest CD, is their first with new record label Epic. It is also my least favourite of all their albums. Don't get me wrong, the CD rocks from start to finish, it just took me a LONG time to get used to it. Fave track would definately be Dumb Ass Country Boy and of course the Brian Johnson song Locked And Loaded. The other tunes are all great, just a little different for Jackyl and a little lighter sounding. Still, pick it up!!!

Jackyl's newest CD, is also their first greatest hits. Released September 15th, it is definately the most knee knocking, fist pumping, chainsawing party album to date. Of course we all have these songs, except for the three new studio tracks, but this is one that is great for the car, and while getting down and dirty with the one you love. For the person that doesn't know of Jackyl, this is a great way to get familiar with the band that will blow you away. Contains all of their hits over 15 tracks, and is definately worth the cash. Again, I still think it is kinda stupid for the band to release a greatest hits after only 3 studio albums, but seeing that it was released by Geffen, maybe it was just a contractual thing.
