U2,in my opinion, is the best rock group to emerge from the 80's.
These four talented musicians from Ireland have shown that it's not just the flower children of the 60's that have the "love and peace" beliefs and the need for unity and understanding of all races, religions, etc. They have been a breath of fresh air for those of us who thought that maybe all of that ambition and drive
for peace ended with the likes of Bob Marley and John Lennon. With the powerful lyrics of lead singer Bono, the chiming guitar
of The Edge, the booming bass of Adam Clayton, and the excellent percussion work by Larry Mullen Jr., this band is hard to beat. From their early music which was very politically motivated to the recent "Pop" album and Pop-Mart tour with it's heavily techno
flair, this is yet another example of how these four lads keep their beleifs in tact with their ability to stay mainstream to todays standards. In Bono's words, "you glorify the past when the future dries up", therfore let's hope this group has the staying power of some of their predecessors so we can continue to enjoy their musical influence!
