The Band

Radiohead, a band originating in Oxford, made their debut almost 12 years ago in a small tavern called Jericho’s under the name of “On a Friday.” The band consists of 5 members:Thom Yorke, Phil Selway, Ed O’Brien and Johnny and Colin Greenwood. Their first demo was released in 1991 and was rendered as useless except for one track which peaked the interest of Bryce Edge and Chris Hufford, two former musicians. Soon Stop Whispering and What’s that you say were released and “On a Friday” developed a listening audience.

Soon they were on the cover of “Curfew,” an Oxford based magazine, and were busy playing gigs. People took to noticing this band and soon EMI signed them. Their first review came after a show at the Venue and wasn’t a spectacular review but it was good enough. Their first album came out in March of 1992 with Prove yourself at the lead track. “On a Friday” had changed their name to Radiohead, following a song off a Talking Heads album. This album reached only 101 on the UK singles chart. The single Creep can be seen as the single that started it all. Pablo Honey was finished in three weeks, and Creep was released in Sep. and the album came out after the new year. It barely reached 78 on the UK charts. But in the U.S. Creep was getting a lot of attention, and reached 34 on the US charts. Pablo Honey soon went gold and a year after its release, Creep peaked at 7 in the UK. The Bends soon began to be recorded with a slight break in the middle for Radiohead to tour the Far East and Australia. Once they got a grip on things again, they finished The Bends and released My Iron Lung which reached a status in the top 30. OK Computer was run on a live basis before it was released in June of 1997. It has won many awards ranging from a Grammy to Rolling Stones people choice awards. A 7 tracks single was released recently with Airbag as its opening single. It is only being released for a limited time.
