GUITAR PLAYER

AUGUST 1980 - This issue contains Guitar Player's premiere of their guitar gear column called "Product Profile" in which the Gibson Lab Series L5 Combo Guitar Amplifier is reviewed. (Page 84.) This amplifier was essential in Ty's approach for the original "King's X Sound."

OCTOBER 1991 - This is my favourite interview with Ty. There are transcribed guitar parts of "Far, Far Away" "I Can't Help It" and "Out of the Silent Planet" and a brief history of Ty's beginning with the guitar. (FAITH HOPE LOVE era)

MAY 1994 - Another excellent interview with Ty from Guitar Player. (DOGMAN era)

JUNE 1995 - This issue contains a review of the Zion Ty Tabor Signature guitar.

MAY 1996 - This issue contains the most exhaustive look at Ty's gear yet! Ty reveals his "secret" Gibson Lab Series L5 amp that he used on the first four King's X albums as well as other ways in which he sets up his equipment. (EAR CANDY era)

APRIL 1997 - This issue contains a photo of Ty in the "Hand Jive" section of Guitar Player. ("Hand Jive" photo on page 142 and "Hand Jive Solution" on page 147.) "Hand Jive" is a feature of Guitar Player in which a photo is displayed of a guitar player's hands and you have to guess who the player is. The caption reads, QUESTION: "Whose band got lost in Germany?" ANSWER: "Fleet-fingered Ty Tabor of King's X."

GUITAR WORLD

NOVEMBER 1989 - The first interview Ty did for Guitar World and I believe, the first guitar magazine interview that Ty has ever done. There's also a really great picture of King's X performing live in this magazine that I have never seen published anywhere else. (GRETCHEN GOES TO NEBRASKA era)

MAY 1992 - Ty's second interview with Guitar World. (KING'S X era)

FEBRUARY 1994 - This is quite a short interview with Ty in the "Whammy Bar" section. He describes how much the King's X sound changed on DOGMAN and with it, his equipment as well. (DOGMAN era)

It also contains a transcription of Ty's solo to "Manic Depression" from the DOGMAN album. (This issue was released in 1994.) (DOGMAN era)

AUGUST 1996 - This interview is found in the "Profiles:Q & A" section (page20).It's a short interview and contains a picture of Ty in concert. (EAR CANDY era)

This is a 4-page newsletter put out by Mesa Boogie. Ty is featured in the cover story and the interview contains 2 pictures - one of King's X and one with Ty sitting on his guitar rig. Ty describes why he choose the Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier as his amp for Dogman and talks about the album. (DOGMAN era)

(Please Note: If anyone is interested, I have 6 copies of this interview. If you would like one, please e-mail me and we'll work something out so I can send one to you.)

HEAVEN'S METAL

February 1996 - This is an unedited interview Ty did with Heaven's Metal Magazine. It also contains some words of wisdom from Doug Pinnick on lyric writing. To read the interview, CLICK HERE. (EAR CANDY era)

U.K. GUITAR MAGAZINES

THE GUITAR MAGAZINE (U.K. Guitar Magazine)

January 1994 - This issue contains a one-page interview with Ty and a picture of King's X that is taken from the Dogman CD booklet. The interview mainly describes how King's X tried to get a "live" sound on Dogman, a brief history of the band, and a small section on equipment. (DOGMAN era)

GUITARIST (U.K. Guitar Magazine)

February 1994 - This was Ty's first interview with Guitarist magazine. It contains a 6-page interview with Ty and some great pictures of King's X that I haven't seen published anywhere else. (DOGMAN era)

GUITAR TECHNIQUES (U.K. Guitar Magazine)

March 1996 - This U.K. guitar magazine contains an in-depth interview with Ty, concentrating a lot on his equipment and how "different" Ear Candy sounds from the other King's X albums. There is a section that appears each month in the magazine called "Phil Hilborne's A - Z of Great Riffs" which features some of Ty's best guitar parts. There is TAB and standard notation of all the riffs and personal anecdotes from Ty on each of the parts. Guitar Techniques magazine also features a CD-ROM that accompanies each issue, and Ty's riffs are displayed on the CD. There is actually a drum and bass backing track to each of the parts and you can hear all the instrument parts without vocals so that it's easier to hear and play along with each distinct guitar part. (EAR CANDY era)
