By now, I think I'd be a little surprised if you hadn't guessed that the magnificent Howie D is, by far, my favorite Backstreet Boy. What does the 'D' stand for? Droolworthy, of course.
Yes, he truly is a site to behold; the stuff my dreams are made of. Maybe it's his stunning physique, or perhaps those luscious bedroom eyes. Better yet, it may be those silky curls which make my fingers itch to run through them. I haven't quite pin pointed the reason why, but I am 100% Howie Hoochie. Without a doubt.
Now, now. I know exactly what you're thinking. Maybe you're harboring a Nick fetish or a Brian fixation but by the time you're done reading my view from the cheap seats, maybe Howie will have grown on ya.
Let's start on the inside and work out, shall we? Not having the pleasure of knowing Sweet D himself, my observations are assertained from the countless TV appearances I've recorded- his aura and personality of which leap out at me from the screen. Have you ever noticed that Howie's never too tired to talk to a reporter or a fan? He's not a man given to the cold shoulder, and courtesy could be his middle name. True, this BSB does occasionally have difficulties articulating himself in the morning (see All Access video), but what he has to say is usually worth listening to.
The fact that family holds steadfast at the number one position in his life is a dead give-a-way that his sweetness isn't an act. Any boy who thinks of his mama when visiting a new city had got to be worth his weight in gold. Also a touching aspect of his personality is the fact that he keeps Caroline's memory alive in subtle ways: dedicating an award to her, setting up the CCLF in her memory, and such. Any man with a heart like that is well worth the worship, don't you think?
Kindness aside, Howie is one hell of a performer. He could show Brian up any day of the week, and often surpasses Nick and Kevin. Before you balk at that comment, I urge you...think about it. Howie may not be your leading man, but he certainly knows how to work a crowd, as we've seen with his unforgettable MC D performance. Furthermore, Howie's empathy with the viewing audience can be felt to the very last "cheap seat" in the house. His effort is concentrated 110% on each appearance, and it shows.
'D' could also stand for "Dancing Fool". Having recieved training when he was younger, Howie's retained every ounce of instruction he's had over the years. He's almost always in the front line, drawing attention away from the misteps Nick's bound to make. Not to mention the fact that he shymmies his hips unlike any man I've ever seen, save the salsa god himself, Ricky Martin. I remember fondly the days of incessant pelvic thrusts courtesy of the unstoppable Howie and irreverent AJ.
As for the three most common strikes against this Latin Lover, I disagree whole heartedly. His teensy tiny habit of ripping open his shirt to reveal a well waxed and toned chest is a joy to my exsistance. Nothing heightened the Seattle crowd more in 1998 than that one act, save AJ's "unique" interpretation of floor dancing. While some razz Howie for his repeated winking, I say: hey! What if he's been winking at you? Don't forget, the wink is a subtle gesture of flirtation for many men on this planet, women too. Can you fault Howie for being a lady's man? I think not. And finally: the falsetto harmonies which have convinced some that Howie must not have much....down there. I beg to differ. Any man can spout a primal growl when prompted, but how many to you know who can rival the voices of angels? Hmm. That's what I thought.
In conclusion, I'd like to restate that I'm 100% Howie Hoochie, though I do favor AJ and Kevin as close seconds, and carry a great deal of respect for Brian and Nick. But I am a proud member of the Howie Harem, make no mistake. As you may be able to see now that I've shared my view from the cheap seats, Howie's got the entire package (in more ways than one, I'm sure.) *wink*
