Review-If You Heard My Song
Among the slew of ABC artistes such as DJ Jerry, Tony Chang, L.A. Boyz, Babes etc, my personal fave is 19-year old Wang. A sophomore at Williams College in Masachusetts, he was born and raised in the States and didn't pick up Mandarin until two years ago. His enunciation is, however, surprisingly spot-on. His record company is obviously trying to groom him as a young heart-throb; but wholesome and strapping the chap may be, one shouldn't be distracted by the idol trappings, as he has the makings of a good singer-songwriter. Adept at playing the violin and piano, he wrote more than half of the material in his second release. Though he's nominated as Best Newcomer at this week's Hit Awards (1996), Wang is unlikely to clinch the prize. But in the long run, he's probably the one with the most promising future, what with his youth, solid music training and composing talent.
