·What we do:
The main purpose of Sub/Stance is to release tapes, and other forms of political information, in a cheap and effective way. We are continually working on a series of compilation tapes that are sold to benefit political groups that we feel are doing something positive. Each release comes with an information booklet that explains the organization that the tape is a benefit for, as well as gives ways that you can get involved to make a difference. From every benefit tape sold, $1 is donated to the organization that it is a benefit for. We are always working on these benefit comps so if you play in a band that would be interested in contributing to one of the benefits then please get in touch. We will soon be starting another series of tape compilations. The next series, which will also (hopefully) be a continual series, will document punk & hardcore bands from areas where they are often ignored by the "larger" punk/hardcore community. We are looking for bands from South America, Asia, Mexico, Czech Republic, Yugoslavia, Norway and any other areas other such as these. If you play in a politically motivated band from these areas, and would like to contribute to or help out with this kind of compilation, then please get in touch.
In addition to releasing benefit tapes, we also put together tapes of old records that are hard to find and offer them for non profit prices. There are all sorts of people out there charging outrageous prices for records that are considered rare or collectable and that just sucks for people who can't afford to obtain records they'd like to have due to lack of funds. We want to try and make these recordings, and more importantly, the ideas that go along with them, more accessable so that people don't have to give their right arm to get to hear a band that they like.
