maggie mae six different ways this must be the place caravan a good year for the roses wiseblood four white stallions ----------------
|
wiseblood "Carving out our Names" was the first COunting Crows boot I ever got my hands on. So it was this song, along with "Goodnight Elisabeth", "Margery" and "Four White Stallions" that where the first non "August" songs I heard. And of all of them, "Wiseblood" has always been my favorite. I wasn't surprised to hear it wasn't actually by the Crows, it didn't really sound like something they would make...almost country. But nevertheless, I liked it a lot. The reason? well, it was a simple song about such a strong topic......that of deviation. The central character is one that is different from everybody else and for that, he's treated differently, but in the end, he rises above all the harsh mistreatment and he grows from all the experience. The ultimate drifters song. My favorite version of this song has got to be the one where Dan Vickery sings lead. In my opinion, he should sing this song everytime, and if they do record this song for their upcoming "covers" album (the one Adam keeps saying the Crows will do eventually), Dan should sing. He just does it so well...just thought I'd share that little tid bit. |
