Both the Official Nintendo Player's Guide and Nintendo approved
Prima's Official Strategy Guide are filled with wonderful maps, hints and listings
of the various Pokemon,
items, abilities and attacks, and the Technical & Hidden Machines.
Which one is better?
I can't recommend one over the other. They're both great!

This 6" x 9" handbook has over 140 pages of fun illustrations from
the anime, covering 150 Pokemon. For example, each Pokemon has it's name's
pronunciation listed (Rye-chew), element, type, height, techniques,
special techniques, good (to use) against, bad (to use) against, and evolution
method (normal or stone). Interesting info is included
such as "Raichu has so much electrical power in its little body that it
has to use its tail as a ground to avoid shocking itself! Its 10,000
Thunder Wave technique paralyzes an enemy so it can't move."
There is some answers to FAQ, some hints, and fun reading in this book.
Will it help you in the Gameboy game? Somewhat, but I consider
this book to be more of a fun thing to have rather than a resource.
It is geared towards elementary kids and up.
