The Gameboy Cartridges of Pokemon were released in North America in the Fall of 1998.  Suggested Retail Price of $29.95, these games sold almost as quickly as they were put on the shelves in many parts of the country. Although most Pokemon can be found in both the Red and Blue version of Pokemon, there are  several Pokemon that can only be found on either the Red or Blue Cartridge.  Using a Game Link Cable, Pokemon can be traded between two players, so that it is possible to get all 150 Pokemon!

The Pokemon Pinball Game (Gameboy Color!) was released Winter 1999.  I haven't had time to really play it yet, but friends have told me it is quite fun.  The cartridge itself is unique.  It has its own built in "rumble pack", which vibrates!
Another Pokemon game cartridge was released Fall 1999.  Pokemon - Special Pikachu Edition (Pokemon Yellow) is a yellow game cartridge, with essentially the same Pokemon that can be found in the Red or Blue editions.  In Yellow, though, you get the added fun of having Pikachu follow you around (just like in the anime) and depending on how you care for it, it becomes happier and shows you different emotions.  If Pikachu is poisoned, for example, it looks quite ill.  If you take it into the Ghost Tower, it looks scared, and so on.  Yellow also gives you the chance of getting the main four Pokemon - Pikachu, Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur without trading!  Team Rocket also shows up at various points in the game, and there are other minor differences from the previous versions.
A special edition Game Boy Unit was available with the Pokemon Yellow Game.  As you can see, the screen is framed by Pikachu, Togepi, and Jigglypuff.  The controls are brightly colored, and the Pokeball glows when the unit is turned on.  What you can't see here is that the unit is also two-toned!  The back half of the unit is blue (like the directional button).  What a cool Game Boy!
