Webber HomeElizabeth watched Lucky get out of Nicolas' car, and went to her room and waited.
The first thing he saw as he opened the door were the decorations around the livingroom. There were streamers, balloons and lights everywhere. There was a note on the top of a garment bag that was hung over the back of the couch that said, "Put this on." He unzipped the bag and pulled the Tuxedo out. He smiled and quickly began to undress.
Elizabeth moved to the top of the stairs and she could hear the bag being zipped back up and thrown onto the floor.
"Are you decent?" she called out to him.
"Yeah," he called back to her.
As she was coming down over the stairs he walked around the couch to meet her. He was running his hands through his hair when he caught sight of her. They immediately stilled as she floated down over the stairs. She had her hair piled on top of her head with tiny ringlets hanging down around her face. She was wearing a strapless pale blue dress that clung to her body. It had a long slit going up the side that opened to reveal her left leg which each step she took. She was smiling her incredible smile at him.
"Hi," she said as she reached the bottom step.
Lucky let his hands drop to his sides. "Elizabeth," he slowly brought them back up and placed them over his heart, "You take my breath away."
She walked slowly towards him and reached up to fix his bowtie, "Thank-you." She leaned over and picked up the remote to her stereo. As she pressed play and Lucky heard the first cord to the song he was flooded with memories of the night they had vowed to be together forever. It was a song by N SYNC called "God Must Have Spent A Little More Time On You". They had danced to it right there in her livingroom before Lucky had surprised her by bringing her to a church. It was exactly a year after her rape. Valentines' Day, 1999.
When she turned back to him she saw the tears in his eyes mirroring her own and knew that he remembered.
He slowly removed his hands from his chest and reached out to her, "Dance with me."
She put down the remote and walked into his arms as the tears slid from both of their eyes. She placed her left hand in his right hand and her right hand on his chest as he slid his left hand around her waist to rest on the small of her back. They slowly swayed to the music as their tears continued to fall.
Can this be true
Tell me can this be real
How can I put into words what I feel
My life was complete
I thought I was whole
Why do I feel like I'm losing control
Never thought that love could feel like this
And you changed my world with just one kiss
How can it be that right here with me
There's an angel
It's a miracle
Your love is like a river
Peaceful and deep
Your soul is like a secret that I never could keep
When I look into your eyes
I know that it's true
God must have spent a little more time on you
In all of creation all things great and small
You are the one that surpasses them all
More precious then any diamond or pearl
They broke the mold when you came in this world
And I'm trying hard to figure out just how I ever did without
The warmth of your smile
The heart of a child
That's deep inside
Leaves me purified
Your love is like a river
Peaceful and deep
Your soul is like a secret that I never could keep
when I look into your eyes
I know that it's true
God must have spent a little more time on you
Never thought that love could feel like this
And you changed my world with just one kiss
How can it be that right here with me
There's an angel
It's a miracle
Your love is like a river
Peaceful and deep
Your soul is like a secret that I never could keep
When I look into your eyes
I know that it's true
God must have spent a little more time on youWhen the song was over Lucky reached his other arm around her and held her tight. "I love you," he whispered in her ear, "I love you so much."
"I love you too." She pulled back from him and said, "I want to give you something."
"What is it?" he asked slowly. Lucky was getting nervous. He didn't know where this was going.
She turned and walked over to the stereo, "I have been trying to find a way to show you how much I love you…"
Lucky walked up behind her, "Elizabeth…"
"Please let me finish." She was extremely nervous. She picked a small box up off the stereo and hid it in her hands. As she turned to face him she said, "I know that we only just got reunited, but, I know that…" She started to cry.
Lucky put his arm around her shoulders and led her to the couch. He never noticed the box in her hands as he placed his hands on top of them in her lap. "Elizabeth, I know what you're going to say."
She looked at him and watched his tears fall from his eyes, "You do?"
He nodded. "Yeah. I know that we both want to get the years we've missed back, and," he took a deep breath, "I want to make love to you, but I don't want us to rush. I want to take it slow. I want us to discover each others wants and needs and…" He stopped when he saw the smile on her face.
"Lucky, I feel the same way." She said as she placed a hand on his cheek.
He looked at her confused, "What? Then what is this all about?"
Elizabeth opened her other hand and held the box up to him, "This."
Lucky took the box from her and slowly opened it. Inside was a silver earring that had two Ls' intertwined facing eachother inside a heart. He smiled brightly at her and removed it from the box.
"Do you like it?" she asked him softly. "I know it's a little corny …"
Lucky cut her off with a soft kiss. "It's amazing," he stared deep into her eyes. "You're amazing. Will you put it in for me?"
She took it from his hand and reached up to put it on his ear. "I didn't know if you were still into wearing an earring because you haven't been since you came home."
"I lost the only one I had with me a few years back. Faison gave me a couple but I didn't wear them." He turned to her when she was finished and noticed she looked sad.
"Lucky? Did he ever hurt you, like, beat you up or anything?" she asked him slowly.
"No," he placed his hands in hers, "He never beat me up. Although there were times when I wished he had."
"What?," she squeezed his hands, "Why?"
"Because my heart was aching so much. I figured that if he smacked me around a bit it would dull it out." He let out a sarcastic laugh.
"I'm so sorry for all of your suffering. I should have told someone that I knew you were alive. If I had we could have brought you home sooner." She had begun to cry again.
"Listen to me. None of this is your fault. None of it!" He rubbed his thumbs across her cheeks, wiping her tears. "I still can't believe that you're with me. That in itself is worth everything."
They leaned in and kissed eachother. It was soft and slow and filled with love. When they pulled away she said, "I didn't have a choice. It was the only option for my heart, soul, and my body." She smiled at the joy on his face from hearing her say that.
"Now that I'm back where I belong, it seems as though I never left. Things have definitely changed, but not you," he leaned in and kissed her softly. "Your capacity for love or the way you make me feel as though I'm floating on air... I mean it has changed, but now it's just a million times more powerful, more incredible."
"I know what you mean." She got up from the couch and took his hand, "I know you probably already ate at your moms but I cooked some things for you that I at least want you to try."
"You cooked?" he asked her unconvinced.
"Yes I did!" she stated proudly. "I knew that it was either learn or starve so I asked your mom to teach me. Come into the diningroom and I'll prove it to you."
She led him into the diningroom where she had the table set for two, with all the trimmings. There were foods of all kinds lined across the center of the table.
"You did all this for me?" he asked her softly.
"Don't you know yet that I would do anything for you?" she asked smiling at him.
Lucky smiled back and wrapped his arms around her, "If I didn't before, I sure do now." He kissed her softly and pulled her chair out for her. When she was seated he noticed that she had his place set at the other end of the table. He quickly walked over, picked up his dishes and walked back to her end of the table. He placed them next to hers and sat down beside her. "Now," he smiled at her, "What should I try first?"
