Misery Made Beautiful - Chapter 8

by: Amber

Liz backed away from Lucky and put her hand up to her mouth in disbelief. Liz stepped forward again and extended her hand to touch Lucky's chest, but she quickly pulled her hand back. Lucky noticed her hesitation.

Lucky: (soft voice) It's okay.

Liz looked into Lucky's piercing blue eyes and re-extended her hand this time she placed it onto Lucky's bare chest right over the subway token. Liz felt a shock run through her body when she touched Lucky. She had almost forgotten that feeling, but it all came rushing back to her.

Liz: Lucky.

Lucky: Yeah baby, it's me.

As the tears continued to fall from Liz's eyes, she pressed her body up against Lucky's and took him in her embrace. Lucky did what came naturally to him and slipped his arms around her back and held her close. She still fit perfectly in his arms and Lucky just wanted to absorb all of her. As he held her, he smelled her hair and her skin. She still had that sweet smell to her that he held in his mind for so long.

Liz lifted her head to meet Lucky's eyes as they still held each other. Without thinking as if it were second nature, Liz closed in all the space between them and brushed her lips up against his. Lucky quickly responded to her and deepened the kiss. The kiss tuned passionate and full of fire as their tongues danced together. Liz's hands were all in Lucky's hair and then down his back as his hands ran wild all over her back. After a few minutes, Liz and Lucky pulled away from their reunion kiss completely out of breath. While still holding each other, Liz put her hand up to Lucky's face to caress his cheek.

Liz: How is this possible?

Lucky: Come here, come sit with me.

Lucky took Liz's hand and led her to the bench. They both sat down and Lucky took Liz's hand in his as he began to speak.

Lucky: The fire was a set up. Someone who wanted revenge against my father kidnapped me. I have been held captive for five years.

Liz stood up from the bench and walked over to the edge of the docks. She had to absorb what Lucky just told her before she spoke.

Liz: You have alive all this time while I…..Oh god

Lucky: (stood up and walked over to Liz) Elizabeth, I am so sorry. I NEVER EVER would have left you if I had a choice. Look at me.

Liz: (turned around) I'm sorry, but this is too much. You have been gone for five years; I finally got my life back together after years of mourning you. I finally feel like a person again. Oh my god….Jason. Lucky. I'm engaged to be married.

Lucky: (lowers his head) I know.

Liz: How?

Lucky: I got back to town the other night and I wanted to go visit Ruby's grave and I saw you in the cemetary at….my grave.

Liz: Wait you heard me at your grave? You listened to me? And you've been here for nights and this is the first time I'm seeing you?

Lucky: I'm sorry but after I heard you say you moved on and you were with Jason, I didn't want to interfere in your life.

Liz: Interfere? Lucky you were everything to me. You were my life; don't you think I had a right to know you were alive the second you came back? My god Lucky.

Lucky: Look, nothing matters okay. I'm here, I'm alive, and I am trying to get my life back. The life that was stolen from me and I'm sorry that I did not tell you sooner but I love you too much to hurt you. God how do you think it was for me. Being locked up for five years knowing you were moving on and forgetting about me.

Liz: Forget about you? Lucky I could never….how could you think? Did you honestly think that in the last five years there was one day that I did not think about you? Lucky I still love you.

Lucky: But you're not in love with me.

Liz: I don't know what I am. Well I know that I am confused, scared, and I have never more felt alone. I'm sorry I have to go.

Liz ran from Lucky and left the docks.
