Anyway, point is, even Dutchy learned to spell strike. You can increase your Dutchy Vocabulary too! Just use the Triumvirate's handy-dandy Word-A-Day Referencing System (aka DutchyWords). Here's an example of how it works.


Quintessence
definition: n. 1) the purest form of some quality; pure essence. 2) the most perfect
example of something.
DutchyPhrase: Ivan Dudynsky is the quintessence of dancing and newsieness.

DutchyPhrase: Given the right exposure, Ivan would become a leviathan in the world
of choreography.
January 2nd is a bank holiday in Scotland and New Zealand.
January 3 - Williwaw
definition: n. 1. a sudden, violent wind 2. a violent commotion
DutchyPhrase: Dutchy and the other newsies spread information to other parts of
New York City, creating a williwaw of angry newsie protesters.
January 4 - Stalwart
definition: adj. Marked by outstanding strength of body, mind, or spirit
DutchyPhrase: Dutchy and the other newsies fought the stalwart newspaper
magnates of 1899 New York... and won.
January 4th is Trivia Day.
January 5 - Janus-faced
definition: adj. Having two contrasting aspects
DutchyPhrase: Ivan's characters Lewis the Band Geek and "A Dude" may seem
Janus-faced, but we all know they're the same lovable person.
January 5th is Twelfth Night.
January 6 - Recant
definition: v. to take back formally and publicly: renounce
DutchyPhrase: In the inconceivable event that DutchyWeb addicts would enter a
twelve-step program to end their addiction, they would be forced to recant all
knowledge of anything Dutchy.
January 6th is the Feast of the Epiphany.
January 7 - Epigram
definition: n. a terse, witty poem or saying
DutchyPhrase: To view epigrams about Dutchy, visit Spot's Poetry Corner.
January 8 - Footle
definition: v. 1. to talk or act foolishly. 2. to waste time
DutchyPhrase: If the Triumvirate ever met Ivan in person, first they'd footle, and after
that, they don't know what they'd do.
January 8th is [Andrew] Jackson Day and "the King's" (you know, Elvis's)
birthday.
January 9 - Obdurate
definition: adj. 1. hard-hearted. 2. stubbornly resistant: unyielding
DutchyPhrase: Every morning, Dutchy is obdurate about taking the towel off his
head; he won't do it!
January 9th is Balloon Ascension Day.
January 10th - Chilblain
definition: n. an inflammatory swelling or sore caused by exposure to cold
DutchyPhrase: If Dutchy didn't have the Lodging House in winter, he would get many
chilblains, and then we would be sad.
January 11th - Impervious
definition: adj. 1. incapable of being penetrated. 2. incapable of being affected.
DutchyPhrase: Ivan is apparently impervious to the pleas of his fans as he has not
been on TV since 1994.
January 11th is International Thank-You Day.
January 12th - Pinchbeck
definition: n. something counterfeit or spurious
DutchyPhrase: No matter how much makeup he had to wear for Roundhouse, Ivan's
looks were never pinchbeck, they were the real thing.
January 12th is National Pharmacist Day.
January 13th - Schadenfreude
definition: n. enjoyment obtained from the troubles of others
DutchyPhrase: Dutchy experiences schadenfreude from watching the Delancys get
beaten up.
January 13th is Stephen Foster Memorial Day.
January 14th - Quietus
definition: n. 1. removal from activity, especially: death. 2. something that quiets or
represses.
DutchyPhrase: Nothing, not even Pulitzer, could impose a quietus on Dutchy and the
Newsies.
January 14th is Ratification Day.
January 15th - Countenance
definition: v. to extend approval or toleration to: sanction
DutchyPhrase: Had Judge E. A. Monagham allowed Dutchy and the Newsies to go
free, he would have been expressing tacit countenance to their raucous
behavior.
January 16th - Rakish
definition: adj. of, relating to, or characteristic of a dissolute person
DutchyPhrase: Frankly, Dutchy doesn't seem rakish at all; that title goes to Jack.
January 16th is Prohibition Remembrance Day.
January 17th - Bobbery
definition: n. a noisy disturbance: brawl
DutchyPhrase: Warden Snyder and the bulls viewed the Newsies Rally as a
bobbery; however, Dutchy did not. He thought it was pretty cool.
January 17th is Kim's birthday. Kim is the sister of Ali (well, she's supposed to
be, anyway.) =)
January 18th - Ambiguous
definition: adj. capable of being understood in more than one way
DutchyPhrase: The name Dutchy is ambiguous; it could be Dutch, Pennsylvania
Dutch...or it could mean that he makes the girls pay when he takes them on
dates.
January 18th is Maintenance Day.
January 19th - Cadence
definition: n. the measure or beat of a rythmical flow
DutchyPhrase: It is a fact that Dutchy marched to a cadence all his own.
January 20th - Peremtory
definition: adj. 1. imperative. 2. marked by arrogant self-assurance.
DutchyPhrase: Refer to the sentence for January 16th and insert the word peremtory. January 20th is Inauguration Day.
January 21th - Darkle
definition: v. 1. to become clouded or gloomy. 2. to become sealed in the dark
DutchyPhrase: Dutchy and the Newsies darkled when Jack was hauled off, and also
when Denton announce he was leaving (although no one knows why.)
January 22nd - Nocent
definition: adj. having a tendency to harm
DutchyPhrase: Dutchy, as a Newsie, always fights valiantly against the nocent ways
of the Delancy brothers.
January 23rd - Hierophant
definition: n. 1. one who explains or interprets 2. a spokesperson or advocate.
DutchyPhrase: The Triumvirate doesn't care what anyone says - Dutchy should have
been the hierophant for the Newsies.
January 24th - Tangible
definition: adj. 1. perceptible especially by the senses of touch 2. substantially real
DutchyPhrase: If Dutchy were tangible to his admirers, especially the Triumvirate,
through the screen, his fans would be incredibly happy (not to mention
surprised.)
January 25th - Eidetic
definition: adj. marked by extraordinarily accurate and vivid recall
DutchyPhrase: All Ivan's fans are eidetic about his sparse moments in Newsies.
January 26th - Wizen
definition: v. to become or cause to become dry or wrinkled
DutchyPhrase: Hopefully, time will not cause Ivan to wizen.
January 27th - Recapitulate
definition: v. to repeat the principal points of: summarize
DutchyPhrase: Allow us to recapitulate: Ivan is gorgeous, Ivan is talented, and this
page is about Ivan. Enough said.
January 27th is National Activity Professionals Day.
January 28th - Mossback
definition: n. an extremely oldfashioned or reactionary person: fogy
DutchyPhrase: Although the Triumvirate does not know Ivan's political affiliation, we
presume that he is not a mossback.
January 29th - Cryptic
definition: adj. puzzling or mysterious
DutchyPhrase: Why Ivan has such a tiny role in Newsies is cryptic.
January 30th - Ostracize
definition: v. to exclude from a group by common consent
DutchyPhrase: The evil so-called DutchyFans who suddenly decided to ostracize
Ivan were immediately drawn, quartered, and flocked.
January 31st - Disabuse
definition: v. to free from error, fallacy, or misconception
DutchyPhrase: The purpose of DutchyWeb is to disabuse netsurfers of notions that
Ivan is not a god.
