Perhaps the most popular of all BBC TV comedies, Dads Army is a term used to describe the Home Guard, Britain's first line of defense in the event of an invasion during the second World War. Why Dads Army? Well as most of the younger men had already been called up into the regular forces, the Home Guard was predominately made up of middle-aged professional and trades men. The roles played in their private lives inevitably are reflected in their Home Guard duties and responsibilities and this adds to the comedy that is Dads Army.
