"Oh no no no, he'll get you after school, son. Now hurry up, it's time for class."
    Principal Skinner, "Bart the General"

"The key to Springfield has always been Elm Street. The Greeks knew it. The Carthaginians knew it. Now you know it."
    Herman, "Bart the General"

"Dear Advertisers, I am disgusted with the way old people are depicted on television. We are not all vibrant, fun-loving sex maniacs. Many of us are bitter, resentful individuals who remember the good old days when entertainment was bland and inoffensive. The following is a list of words I never want to hear on television again. Number one: Bra. Number two: Horny. Number three: Family Jewels."
Grandpa's letter of complaint, "Bart the General"

My Review: This is one of those episodes that hilariously apply the irreverent, intelligent "Simpsons Treatment" to what would otherwise be a standard sitcom plot (in this case, Bully Torments Kid), like There's No Disgrace Like Home (Company Picnic), Lisa's Substitute (Kid Has Crush On Teacher) and I Love Lisa (School Play). Bart gets sweet revenge on Nelson Muntz in an episode that recalls the days of our childhoods when "play" was real. Look for references to "Patton," "Full Metal Jacket" and other war movies. This is writer John Swartzwelder's debut; he would go on to be the most prolific writer by far, bringing us good episodes like Bart the Murderer and Homer the Great, and bad ones like Mountain of Madness and Homer Simpson in: Kidney Trouble. (4.5/5)
