Who is Kate Roberts?
Kate was a good friend of Marlena Evans when she first came to Salem in 1993. She brought her son, Lucas, who was later revealed to be the biological son of Bill Horton. Even later she found out that Duh-boy and Billie Reed were her children. They'd apparently been reported as dead and/or missing for years, due to the machinations of her abusive husband, Curtis. Kate fell in love with Victor Kiriakis, but he told her that she had to give him a child before they could get married. (Old Vic's been desperate for an heir for almost a decade-and-a-half now.) Normal methods weren't doing the trick, so they opted for in vitro fertilization. Vivian Alamain, an old flame of Victor's, was trying valiantly to win his affection and implanted the embryo in herself in the hopes that he would love her. No such luck. Victor was enamored of Kate and stood by her as Vivian carried little Philip Kiriakis to term. And despite Vivian arranging a "practice" ceremony in anticipation of Kate and Victor's nuptials which she stood in for Kate in and got a real priest to perform the rite, Kate and Victor finally wed. Kate's death was arranged by Vivian in 1995, but she returned a year later after having been afloat on a fishing boat with amnesia. She arrived back in town in time to give Vivian her due and hook back up with Victor, who fell into a coma shortly afterwards. Currently she controls Titan, and enormous conglomerate, and meddles in her children's lives.

What is her main conflict?
Sami the Schemer is the thorn in Kate's side. It seems that these two ladies function on the same wavelength, but on opposite channels. Kate wants the best for her babies Billie, Duh-Boy and Lucas, and Sami could stand to ruin everything if she reveals what she's got on Kate: that she used to be a call girl. Sami, wants what's best for her son, Will, and can and has done anything to make her dreams for her son come true. Kate is also at odds with Franco Kelly, Sami's new beau. The two are intent on marrying and removing Will from the Kiriakis mansion. Kate won't have it and she implored Stefano to off "the little witch." Stefano agreed, but it remains to be seen what will happen to Sami.

What would I do with Kate if I were a DOOL writer?

Have her spend more time plotting for Philip's sake. We never even see Victor Kiriakis' one and only acknowledged heir! In that vein, get Victor himself back into the loop. Shame on John Aniston for allowing Victor to be a parapelegic! He should be raising hell right alongside Kate.
Get Kate and Smai into a knock-down, drag-out catfight. My money's on Sami, but Kate's got a few tricks up her sleeve.
Get the animosity between Laura Horton and Kate boiling to a fever pitch. Then Vivian can team up with Laura and they can bring Kate down! I like it, I like it. . .

What impact could Nicole have on B&H Inc.?

Kate is responsible for trying to get Duh-Boy to marry Carrie for the longest time. Alliance with the Brady family would have been good for Kate Roberts, as the Hortons wanted nothing to do with her. She also wanted to make it up to her son that she'd never been there for him when he was little. So if Mike and Carrie start getting cosy, you can bet Kate's going to do everything in her power to put a stop to it, but of course, that's only if she finds out. . .

My opinion of the character of Kate Roberts:
Deborah Adair was a much better Kate Roberts. She brought warmth to the character. Kate used to be beautiful because of her sparkle and life, but now she's getting uglier every day that Laura Koslow inhabits the part. I think that Kate needs to get on with her life and let her "babies" make their own mistakes. And I would dearly love to see what happened to her "deep" friendship with Marlena. (I think the fact that one of her boys knocked up Marlena's daughter Sami could have something to do with the lack of welcoming on behalf of the Bradys.)
