8X06 info is in. It is called "Invocation," written by David Amann and to be directed by Richard Compton, who has done a ton of work for TV and film. (He even had parts in 2 original Star Trek episodes!) The ep starts shooting Sept. 20. The official site has this to say about it: "A child's abduction in Dexter, Michigan continues to haunt his family." This would be the "textbook alien-abduction material" CC referred to recently. Also the OS posted what looks like a picture from this season, possibly a scene in "Redrum" or "Patience." The airdates have also changed again, and like "The Goldberg Variation" last year "Redrum" is being pushed waaay back. 8X01, 8X02, and "Patience" air in that order like before, but on Nov. 26 "Roadrunners" will air. Then "Invocation," 8X07, and finally "Redrum" on Dec. 3, 10, and 17 respectively. Anyway back to "Invocation," there is some character info too. The family is the Underwoods. Billy, 7, was abducted 10 years ago and returns without having aged and seems creepy or evil. Lisa, his mother, was on the swing set with Billy when he disappeared from it. She was haunted by the occurrence and doesn't care that he came back unchanged; she is just happy that he's back at all. Josh, Billy's 10-year-old brother, doesn't trust him after his return. And Doug is the father, who also distrusts him. Finally today (thanks Drew Pearson!), if anyone saw Dean Koontz's Sole Survivor (part 1 of the 2-part TV movie finishing tomorrow) today on Fox, Mark Snow did the music. Also I thought I saw Jeff Gulka a.k.a. Gibson in the ads, but it's confirmed that the director of photography is Jon Joffin, who worked on some XF episodes, and Glenn Morshower (from XF, MM, and HR--see the Cool Fact above) is in it also. Rachel Victoria is too, and she was in the HR episode "Three Percenters" and the MM episode "Antipas." Obviously the movie was shot in Canada.

We have a title for 8X05--"Roadrunners." Also the Mythology section now has an Italian translation--click here! Right now it's not done but it will be soon. I also have two Frank Spotnitz quotes: "...[The] last episode will need to restate [the] answers in a more explicit way than people may have perceived them before." "When the last show of the series does come, what I think is that somebody ought to do a two-hour special, whenever the series ends, and talk about the mythology of the show, and sort of remind people of what they've seen and what's been answered and what hasn't, because very few people really have it in their heads; the storyline is so complicated and it's been going on for so long. I think people need to take notes to really have it all clear!" I like that one. :-) This thanks to ScarpX--E! did a rundown of TV's top villains, and CSM came in 5th. Nice! Also--this came in at the perfect time--cut scenes from the "Closure" script are up here. Even more "old" mythology connections in cut scenes, which unfortunately didn't show up in the final episode. Check it out, a must-see. I will update Mythology with the new info.

David Yeldon has again provided me with a great update on U.K. merchandise. The "Dreamland" video, only available direct from Fox (remember?!) and set to be released in stores June 12, was never released. On June 19 season 1 on VHS was released again--it is originally from November 1996. There might be some changes from the original, but it is certain that the official name changed, from The X-Files Season One Collectors Box to The X-Files - Limited-Edition Collectors File - Season One. "Millennium" was released on July 24, delayed from June 12, with no extras. It came with a notice advertising the season 1 DVD set and the season 7 VHS set. Although the cover art of the DVD is the same, Fox may be using 7 Amaray cases instead of the cardboard packaging of the U.S. version. If I haven't said this before, season 1 on DVD comes out November 6 and season 7 on video comes out October 16. BTW the DVD set in the U.K. is priced at the equivalent of $130 with tax as opposed to around $150 (suggested, without tax) in the U.S. And that's it for today.

The OS now has the season 8 promo up. And other than that, I just have stuff to paste. More on 8X05: "Scully is investigating the stoning death of a person in the middle of nowhere, Utah while Doggett is back in D.C. While there she runs into an odd bunch of folks living in a ghost town who are very interested in her skills as a medical doctor." And Morgan & Wong info: "Glen Morgan and James Wong have signed a deal with Columbia Pictures to write and produce a science-fiction film project called After the Visitation. According to Variety, the film will be based on a Russian novella called Roadside Picnic which tells the story of a 20-square-mile patch of land protected and controlled by the U.N. where an alien visitation took place 20 years before. A man who lives nearby learns that his daughter's health has been affected by the landing and attempts to journey into the closed area in hopes of finding an answer that will help his daughter. Wong will direct the film with Morgan, Neal Moritz and Tom Sternberg producing. Columbia is hoping to start production in fall 2001." "The Rock (a.k.a. Dwayne Johnson) has decided to leave the production [of an in-development untitled sci-fi film], which was being written by James Wong and Glen Morgan. The Revolution Studios project will tell the story of a futuristic cop who must battle an other-dimensional version of himself who's been murderously moving through the multiverse."

I'm back with enough accumulated info for a nice-sized update. First off, those interested in Doggett and the actor who plays him should definitely check out the brand-new Official Website for Robert Patrick. Also Entertainment Weekly named TXF #76 in the 100 Greatest Entertainers, 1950-2000 (apparently #75 in another edition of the magazine...). Readers of The Onion have probably already seen this, but the AV Club portion of the site reviewed Airborne in this week's "Films that time forgot" feature. Check the link out here and read TO's always-interesting take. I will admit to having already seen the movie because of my interest in the director (Rob Bowman of course) and frankly, it is very watchable. Back on topic: next paragraph is chock-full of the latest on season 8 and its promotion.

Click here to download the 15-second promo of season 8 that aired during the "Closure" rerun! Was I surprised to see that pop up on screen...and gone before I knew it. Very helpful is this page, the latest to post stills from the TV spot, and this page has one for every scene, and since they went by so fast it's interesting to see what you missed when watching the video. All I can say is: Alien embryo goo?! Also check the official site for the first picture seen from season 8, one of Scully and Doggett, from TV Guide. In other OS news, there is a neat new season 8 Flash intro, a new interview with Nick Lea on the "Patient X" kiss, another fan site feature, and news that "Redrum" and "Patience" will air in reverse order. Also info on 8X05 was posted: "Scully's stuck in a Utah one-horse town with a cult and a slug. Confused?" Yes. And check out this CC quote: "We will explore a lot of what I would consider textbook alien-abduction material." Also he said that the father of Scully's baby will "quite probably" be revealed early on in the season.

Season 2 DVD set news: "...The set includes a new documentary, The Truth About Season Two, as well as bonus interviews with series creator Chris Carter, deleted scenes and two special-effects clips. More marketing efforts will be focused on this boxed set than were on [the season 1 set]...including Internet marketing. Fox will create a special site promoting the DVDs [in addition to the season 1 DVD site?]; links to the official X-Files page will also be featured [in the DVD-ROM content?]." Check this out: I stumbled upon 7 new banner ads advertising the X-Files ISP and OS. Here are the three for the ISP: 1, 2, and 3. And for the OS: 1, 2, 3, and 4.

I just wanted to close with my opinion on "Closure," which has stirred up yet more controversy and anger due to its rerun. And that makes me angry. Now I am a mythology freak; I love it and pore over the most minor details (which usually end up to be consistencies no one else seems to notice). Anyway, it looks like the opinion of a lot of people is that "Sein Und Zeit" is a lot better than its conclusion, something which I don't think is right at all. SUZ is a good episode, but it did have some flaws--the writing could have been better, Scully was written as just plain annoying, and Michael Watkins (except for the fantastic ending) seems to have made the whole episode choppy and detached. That is just my feeling. No contest though, the acting was superb. "Closure" seems to be what CC & FS considered their priority because the writing is very good, and the emotional impact is more than possibly any other episode in the show. Certainly "One Breath" and "Memento Mori" share that aspect, but "Closure" is unparalleled in its raw emotional power. Which is perfect for the end to a 7-year-long quest that has driven the show since the pilot. Yes, the Moby song was no small part of that, but even more was Kim Manners' fantastic work and the great acting--and Mark Snow's disturbing ambient score. What was missing, people say, is the element of logic and continuity in all this emotional stuff. To that I say: it is there, you just have to know where to look! What no one has pointed out is Jeffrey Spender's videotape of his hypnotic regression in "Patient X," something that goes a long way to explain the surprising twist in "Closure." And remember that Cassandra was first abducted on the same day as Samantha, and that Samantha (and apparently everyone else) had her memories taken away like Mulder in "Deep Throat." That explains for the mythology freak in me how it's possible that the aliens returned them both to the base, for any number of reasons. And why did CSM (and even the Bounty Hunter, who did collaborate with the Syndicate) lie to Mulder all along? Stop to think what Mulder's importance to the Project was ("Herrenvolk"). Watch "Gethsemane." Mulder's importance was that he was the smokescreen covering up the Project and making believers look ridiculous! That is why he's been kept alive (to even more potential benefit in "Biogenesis" etc.) and given bait to pursue his interests endlessly. Remember, Fowley (who was with CSM) introduced Mulder to the X-files and even recommended his hypnosis--possible planned steps to "create" Mulder as CSM said in "Redux II." And the Samantha in that episode we all know was debunked as a hybrid by Cassandra in "Two Fathers," and Samantha's experiments at April Air Base are what resulted in both the young and adult hybrids. There is the logic, already implied in earlier episodes. And to debunk another major misunderstanding, that CC & FS wrote "Closure" poorly because of neglecting the point of why some children were saved and others weren't: That is the point of the episode! Those who bash the episode based on that forgot the teaser, in which the spirits of the dead children walk out of the victims' graves! I.e. even those who suffer find eternal bliss in the end. Even Harold Piller asks why some must suffer and others are saved. This goes right back to plane crashes, etc. where there is only one survivor. Why?? All right, so why go the spiritual route? There is one certainty in coming up with the Samantha resolution: Samantha CANNOT show up in subsequent episodes after Mulder "finds" her. Otherwise we'd have "The Mulder, Scully and Samantha Hour," something I'm sure everyone agrees is ridiculous. So what? Mulder finds Samantha and she dies right afterward? She is abducted again? It seems to me that fans would be even more outraged with those outcomes. CC & FS expertly ended Mulder's quest in preparation for a possible new quest in season 8 (finding Mulder) by allowing fans not versed in the mythology and new viewers to understand what is going on, and providing closure. After all, the search has been so confusing, and on the surface, logic-defying, that any other route than a spiritual resolution would be pointless. Other quick notes: Children too happy? There have been comments that the episode is sappy or corny because of all the happy children playing around. Frankly I think a little innocent happiness in the world doesn't hurt, and there are times when cynics go too far. There is enough cynicism on TXF already to allow one truly innocent message.

The necklace? The one that Scully was seen wearing in the season 8 premiere photo? Well, she never gave it to Mulder, we never got proof of it, and frankly it would be out-of-character for her to lend it to him. Even more out-of-character for Mulder to accept it. Think about it. If it really did happen, the episode will somehow have Scully get it again. Otherwise she's had it all along (even GA said she just forgot to wear it in the end scene of "Requiem"; I hope Kim Manners or somebody will say for sure whether they filmed the abduction scene with Mulder wearing the necklace or not). But you are vastly underestimating CC if you think he'd forget that Scully did such a thing in the previous episode! Especially with the continuity of the necklace being lost and found numerous times. Some will be quick to point out that "Christmas Carol" established that Scully got the necklace for Christmas instead of her birthday as we learned in "Ascension"; but before bashing CC remember that he didn't write either episode or "Emily," and that VG even admits that they knew they were breaking continuity but that it was too good an opportunity to pass up. Thank you.

Info on 8X05! It's written by Vince Gilligan and to be directed by veteran TV director Rod Hardy (he did the recent High Noon remake). Shooting starts Sept. 8. What we know is that it takes place in a small Utah town and involves the disappearance of Scully. The characters include Hank, a weary hitchhiker traveling across the country; Mr. Milsap, a cult leader and owner of a run-down boarding house; and an FBI agent from the Salt Lake City field office who comes in to investigate when Scully disappears. Five straight serious eps--now that's something I can handle. Finally today, Robin brought to my attention that the LG site still has a link at the OS, just not with the chip thing. The link is at the X-Philes page.

8/29/2000

There were early reports today that 8X04 is called "Small Change," but that was quickly shown to be wrong by the OS, which posted the title as "Patience." The previous title, which was seen on signs at a shooting location, may be a previously considered title or, more likely, the title of a completely different production mistaken for TXF. If, when I see the episode, it looks like it could have been a title, I'll list it as a previous title. But I doubt that is true since the location where the signs were seen was labeled "UNTITLED" by the EIDC and not "UNTITLED FOX T.V." as TXF usually is. Anyway. More info on "Patience": "The creature was captured 44 years ago and the warden describes him as the model prisoner. (I guess I shouldn't say him. As Scully says, 'I never said you're looking for a man.') Anyway they say 'Bird Man of Alcatraz' isn't just interested in bats, he is a bat. He spends every waking minute stuffed into the prison window. All they see is a big eye. He doesn't eat prison food but they occasionally find rat bones on the floor although no one ever sees him leave the window. When the warden tries to show him to Scully and Doggett, he's not there. He's escaped."

The OS updated today. "Requiem" will be rerun on Oct. 29 if there isn't a game 7 of the World Series. Interestingly, the link to the LG promo site (the chip/spider) has disappeared from the OS's front page, but the site is still there. And also, the news page now has a button to send it to a friend. Finally, click here for a preview of the next XF yearbook (coming out Nov. or Dec.). The description on that page is of the next yearbook, but the accompanying picture is actually a mock-up of what official magazine #16 (the one after the next issue!) might look like, and of what stories it might cover. So because of a little mix-up we get info on both. That's all for today....

Why not an update in so long? To tell the truth, not much has been happening at all! But I have a handful of little stuff that I've collected in the past few days. The most interesting thing is something straight from Jeffrey Bell (via elwood blues): "According to Jeffrey Bell, a number of events have conspired to make him put the story [about aliens--I mentioned this a while ago] down for the time being; those events include Mulder's alien abduction at the end of last season and the subsequent emphasis on aliens at the beginning of this season. 'The tone of the alien story was whimsical and there's consensus that Robert Patrick's character should be introduced through more traditional scary X-Files stories before we wander over into the land of humor or whimsy.'" This was a good, good move. Maybe it would have been a good episode, but funny episodes are a bad idea this season--at least in the first half. Who knows, maybe they'll use this episode after Mulder's return. BTW--Jeffrey Bell also provided elwood with this 3x5 card from when he was putting the story for "The Goldberg Variation" together (the way all the writers use cards to plot out stories). Also, yesterday the Creative Emmy Award winners were announced, and TXF won (3 out of the 6 nominations) best makeup ("Theef") and best sound mixing for a drama and special visual effects ("First Person Shooter"). In other news, the official site updated with videos of Nicholas Lea and Brian Thompson talking about their favorite fights with Mulder, and the character/cast bios were updated. Also X-Props is over and the U.K. contest will finish on Monday. Finally, it looks like some new novelizations are coming out...this month (but apparently not yet as of today) Haunted (#15, by Ellen Steiber) will be released. It's based on "Shadows," but the strange thing is that another novelization was released years ago with the same title, but based on "Excelsius Dei." And Miracle Man (#16, by Terry Bisson) is listed with a Jan. 1 2001 release date.

8/22/2000

Some news is in from the official site. First of all it has a bit more info on 8X04: "Strange bites mark the next case for Scully and Doggett in Cockrill County, Ohio." Also "Nicholas Lea chats live with fans on Thursday, 8/24 at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT right after his television movie Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye airs on Fox (8 p.m. ET/PT)." And the OS will have a new contest starting this fall. While on the topic of the OS, the mail service from the free ISP is still not working. I can't log in to the server at all (whether using the XF ISP or my normal one), while others can, but the addresses still don't work. Also that isn't all the info that's out on 8X04. This is from the Haven: "While investigating the bizarre case, Scully's 'out-there theories' are not welcomed by the sheriff's deputy. Scent and animal tracking-type marking plays an interesting role in the casefile." Anyway, I was sent this regarding the Kings Island rumor:

"Hi there. I'm Tigrane, otherwise known on the official site's message boards as 'Tig.' I caught your news update pertaining to the possible appearance at Kings Island. I sent an e-mail to David Mandt, at Kings Island's publicity department. He responded with this: 'Ms. Tigrane--There are no plans to add an X-Files attraction or host the stars of the show at the park at this time. I'm sorry to disappoint you...but am afraid the rumor mill is spreading incorrect information. Thanks for your inquiry though. -David Mandt, Paramount's Kings Island Public Relations'"

Finally today I have some merchandise news. The movie Thermoses have finally been released; I have a better picture here. As little as 300 were made, and that's it. Also, season 7 comes out on video in the U.K. on October 16. And I've heard of some possible differences between the season 1 DVD set being released internationally and the one released in the States, but I don't know what they are. That is all for now.

News on 8X04 is in. It will be written and directed by Chris Carter, and will start filming August 28. It "takes place in a small Ohio town and involves a sexist sheriff who resents Scully and her authority." The sheriff is Detective Abbott, in his 40s, who has a "strong personality and an alpha presence. He is in charge--he has much dislike for Scully and her being in charge makes it worse." Another character is Myron Stefaniuk, in his late 50s-60s, a "man of few words--doesn't want to be bothered--for a reason." And the sheriff's deputy is "angered when Scully's investigation leads to the sheriff's death." The episode deals with "a highly controversial case from 40 years ago in [the] town. One very interesting character is a 'human bat'!!" Also there is some very interesting new info on the premiere eps. I think I will draw the line here--more info will be too much. First of all, the budget for the two episodes was $9 million! I think the average amount is $2 million an episode. In one of the episodes, somehow Mulder is back and he falls off a 300-foot cliff, landing 30 miles from the bottom of the cliff. Scully and Skinner see it happen. (?!) The Bounty Hunter is in the episodes (or at least one) too, and there's a helicopter scene. Also Kim Manners will direct 5 more episodes this season. One of them will be 8X19 or 8X20, with Chris Carter directing the other (he hasn't decided which). Both will comprise the 2-part finale.

In DD news, he is "possibly joining Ivan Reitman's Evolution movie project...[he is] currently only in preliminary negotiations to join the cast of the ensemble science-fiction comedy [written by David Diamond and David Weissman]. The eventual film's story is about a meteor striking the earth and releasing one-celled organisms that quickly morph through evolutionary states, threatening our planet in the process." Finally for today, the season 1 DVDs will be out November 6 in the U.K.

8/16/2000 *Updated*

UPDATE: A tidbit from CSM Consortium (thanks!): The Oldsmobile Intrigue used in the filming of the movie, later given out in a contest for the movie video, then put on auction at eBay by the winner (no one bid for it), is apparently going to be auctioned off at Amazon.com in February.

A few spoilers and misc. info bits today. First off, the official site clarified that "Redrum" is a teleplay written by Steven Maeda from a story by Maeda and Daniel Arkin. Here's a quote from Frank Spotnitz: "For seven years Chris had an end to the story in mind and he just couldn't tell that story as it turned out. We played it out differently than he ever imagined we would." Very interesting. It makes me wonder (1) if the Mulder abduction/return to Oregon wasn't what he repeatedly said he had planned for all these years (which until now is what I thought), what was his plan? And (2) will he use his original ideas for the season 8/series finale? Also Roda93 (and her local Fox source) has provided me with some great inside information: First of all, it looks like we'll get no more reruns between "Closure" and the premiere, except probably "Requiem" a week or 2 before. Also Gillian's contract extension did come as a result of asking for more pay and less appearances (CC mentioned GA needing time with her daughter so not too many Scully-centric eps); if there would be a season 9, she'd probably be in it as much as DD will be in this season. Also, local Fox TV station managers have been asked to "informally" poll viewers calling in about whether Scully's baby should be alien or not. (!) The results: overwhelming support for a completely normal baby, around 90%. Finally, and this is news I've been wanting to hear for a long time, Fox is set to "promote the hell out of" the show this season, including TV and magazine/newspaper ads, more merchandise, etc. And going hand-in-hand with this, sources inside the fan club say that we'll get more scripts and photos than before too.

Spoilers for the premiere eps ahead.... 8X02 will have a Gibson opening monologue; Skinner and Scully point their guns at each other just like in "The Blessing Way" at the end (this is #4 out of 4 3-parters in which Mulder and Scully are suspicious/paranoid of Skinner for some reason or another); Kersh "sees [Doggett] as possible future competition and wants to discredit him by placing him in an untenable position: in charge of the search for the missing Fox Mulder--with all parties warned that if the words 'alien abduction' are mentioned in anyone's reports, their jobs are in jeopardy." Finally, Doggett is assigned to the X-files in 8X02, not his or Scully's choice, and he seems to like Scully!

8/14/2000

Lots of spoiler-type info today. First off: DD is actually filming, probably right now, his part in the premiere episode(s)! Now I really wonder what CC means by "Mulder is in the premiere." The premiere episodes take place in fictional Flemington, Arizona. The premiere's teaser is a Scully dream sequence about what's happening to Mulder, then she wakes up in her hospital bed. Apparently Dr. Beth Siegler was cut out of the script during a 10-day (!) revision, so other things that have previously been said might be gone or changed too. Other stuff--Kersh is now deputy director! Also the Margaret Scully scene is gone now, replaced by a "conversation" Scully has with her mom's voicemail. A theory is that the costs of the eps were too high already, and remember Sheila Larken, R.W. Goodwin's wife, lives in Vancouver. Skinner works with the Lone Gunmen in the premiere, and it looks like everyone is after Gibson. Scully falls asleep in Mulder's bed in one scene, and in another she throws up. "Redrum" stuff from Autumn T.: "Martin is killed in the teaser. The X-file is that he then starts living his life backwards one day at a time as he tries to prove he was framed and avoid his untimely end." The ep starts shooting Wednesday. Other stuff: It's mostly from Martin's POV, kind of like "Hungry"; it may be Scully-lite; we also get to see Doggett's house.

There is more exciting news in X-Land. The official site has set up a free ISP--FREE Internet access--including your own @thexfiles.com e-mail address!! Click here for the info. BTW the e-mail server is currently not working, and I've heard that it may take a few weeks for it to be fixed. Now it tells you that your login is invalid no matter what. When the e-mail function starts working though, you can get your mail from this address, or from any e-mail program (or even Hotmail's POP Mail option) by setting the mail server to mail.thexfiles.com. Anyway, another X-Files actor is going into directing, and this time it's an actress, Laurie Holden. Not an episode, but she is directing (or already has directed I guess) a TV movie called The Man Who Used to Be Me for the Fox Family Channel, starring Rob Estes and William Devane. It's supposed to air this month. BTW the rumors were right--the season 2 DVD set has been pushed back a week to November 14. And check this out, from Carrie: "Someone told me that when he was at Paramount's Kings Island over the weekend, he saw a ride that had a big picture of Mulder and Scully that said 'Meet the stars of The X-Files, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson (better known as Mulder and Scully), opening 2001.' He thinks that DD and GA are going to actually be there. I checked the Kings Island Web site but didn't see anything." Finally, the X-Files video site is still not updated to Wave 8, but the address has changed yet again to www.foxhome.com/trustno1/indexmain.html.

One thing today--more info on "Redrum" from the mailing list The_Spoiler_Files:

"The federal prosecutor on trial is actually an old friend of John Doggett's. He of course denies killing his wife. As for the supernatural element--stop reading now if you don't want to know--Martin Wells is moving backwards in time. Sort of like Merlin from Sword in the Stone. Today is Thursday, tomorrow for him would be Wednesday, etc. He doesn't remember anything that to everyone else happened previously because he hasn't lived it yet. Martin is very interested in discussing this with Scully. I'm pretty sure the episode follows Martin's timeline. Meaning we experience the days backwards like he does. It sounds great and you can just imagine how the inmates feel about having the very prosecutor who put them away in the same prison with them."

8/9/2000

Info on the first standalone episode of season 8! 8X03 is called "Redrum," and anyone who's seen/read The Shining knows where that is from. Steven Maeda, still on staff, and Daniel Arkin (back from the dead?) wrote it, to be directed by someone else we haven't heard about in a while, Peter Markle. The story involves a federal prosecutor in Baltimore charged with the murder (REDRUM!) of his wife. In other news, sorry for even mentioning the World Series yesterday, as Roda93 graciously pointed out that it's in October not November. And if you can't wait for the release of season 2 on DVD, there's a picture of the cover here. The possible delays reported earlier won't happen, so it still comes out on November 7. Another release date to remember is November 29 for the season 1 DVD set in Australia. And finally, if anyone watched Howard Gordon's short-lived series Strange World before it was given the boot, 6 of the 13 episodes made are available on 3 videos in Australia: "Pilot"/"Eliza," "Azrael's Breed"/"Down Came the Rain," and "Rage"/"Aerobe." Only 3 eps originally aired; other than the pilot and "Azrael's Breed," none of the 6 released were ever shown on TV.

A few interesting things today. First off, TLG's first season, since it starts in the spring, will only have 13 episodes including the pilot. The Nov. 5 premiere date for season 8 is the day of the World Series, after which the long-awaited episode will air. This will probably be pretty late at night, so I hope it's promoted well a la "Leonard Betts" after the Super Bowl. What a success that was. Also, Mitch Pileggi is getting "star billing" for the new season. Could this mean that his name will appear alongside Robert Patrick's in the opening sequence? And, yesterday 1013 took out full-page ads in Variety and Hollywood Reporter in remembrance of Jim Engh, the crew member killed in a freak accident.

Chris Carter's Television Critics Association appearance transcript is up here, from the official site. There's some interesting stuff there that wasn't mentioned in any of the articles, believe it or not:

  • "I know we have scouted this year something we've never scouted before but talked about. We scouted an offshore oil rig and talked about building an episode around that."
  • The shooting location for the premiere that I previously said was Death Valley was actually the Anza-Borrego Desert.
  • "...You'll see how [Mulder being in standalone episodes] works. Hopefully, you'll think it's very clever of us." Hmm....
  • We will see CSM again "dead or alive."
  • TLG news: "There's going to be a character you'll see in the second episode who is a very masculine presence in their midst, and a sort of--a kind of Sam Malone sort of character."

I've been rewatching old classics from my season 1 DVD set, and in one of the interviews Chris Carter dropped this: "Eve" was originally called "The Girls from Greenwich." Finally, if anyone remembers the announcement ages ago that Nick Lea was starring in a Fox TV movie called Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye, it's finally going to be shown--August 24 at 8 p.m. EST.

I'm back now. First off I will mention the horrible accident that happened during the filming of 8X01. The official site has the word direct from Fox, so check it out for details. I hope 1013 puts an "In Memoriam" message at the end of the episode. Anyway, 8X02 is now shooting, also written by Chris Carter with Kim Manners directing. No titles yet. But one thing that I have heard is that CC has decided not to have an "all things" flashback in the premiere eps. Frankly the episodes sound great and I don't think a cut embrace will ruin anything. But there has to be a reason. In spinoff news (thanks Roda93), it's official that it will debut in March in the XF timeslot as I said before. And, there is now an official site of sorts for the show at www.thexfiles.com/thelonegunmen/. If you click on the little computer chip/bug on the XF official site's front page it leads you there. Also, Fox.com has a little page for the spinoff here, found at the fall schedule info page. While on the subject of the OS, it put up the rerun schedule for August and some of September. I updated the Season 7 Spoilers page accordingly. And while on the subject of sites, Dean Haglund's mailing list page now pops up correctly. I noted the error a while ago. The 2001 calendars are also out.

Here's a quote you'd never expect from DD: "I don't know [about a 9th season]. I mean, I don't want to, but I could lose my leg and all of a sudden nobody else would want me to act in their films. I'm not going to say never anymore. We'll see." And finally (not too much news this week), CC is giving out the standard "6-7" as the number of mythology episodes this season. Hopefully it will be 7.
