Searchable Files

Cyndi Howells has a huge list of Databases, Search Sites, and Surname lists.

Though this isn't a searchable file, using the Soundex Converter for your surnames will make searching the census easier.

The LDS Family History Network now has the Social Security Death Index.

USGS/GNIS Geological/Geographical Survey is a searchable file by State to help you locate towns and cemeteries.

The Rand Genealogy Club would like to share with you, geneological resources they've found on the Web.

Everton's Genealogical Helper will help both the new and the experienced researcher; also includes a searchable file.

GenWeb contains links to searchable genealogy databases.

Helms Toolbox has many genealocial links.

The Roots-L U.S. Resources is listed by state and searchable by surname.

Swiss Bank Dormant Accounts Web Site contains a list of the dormant accounts opened by non-Swiss individuals prior to the end of World War II ( May 9, 1945).

U.S. - Regional Archives.

U.S. - NARA Archival Information Locator; a database containing descriptions of 52,000 case files of Cherokee, Creek, and Seminole applications for enrollment to the Five Civilized Tribes (Dawes Commission) between 1898 and 1914 and descriptions of 50,000 Fort Smith Arkansas criminal case files. (hint: entering just a surname may bring additional results)

U.S. - American Life Histories from the American Memory Library of Congress contains first person life accounts compiled by the WPA in 1936-1940.

U.S. - General Land Office Records.

U.S. - American Immigrant Wall of Honor is a searchable database of the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, Inc. The Wall of Honor lists the names of immigrants, but only if someone has paid $100 to have the inscription placed there.

Virginia - Ancestry is a busy site which has Early Virginia Marriages on line.

The World - World Genealogy Web Project Headquarters with an alphabetic list of links to national genealogy pages.

The World - Robert Hoare has put together Telephone Directories on the Web, which span the globe.
