BALDUCCI'S RESTAURANT
A short-order restaurant run by Mr Balducci where Clark Kent worked in order to pay his way through University in Metropolis. Other employees included the waitress Ruby Carson.
BARON WINTERS
It's hard to get a handle on Baron Winters, he's one of those amoral people to seem to cluster on the edges of Earth's mystical community. Everybody has heard of him yet he has no real physical power. He lives alone in his Georgetown Mansion with his pet leopard Merlin. He rarely intervenes in matters himself and would rather gather together a team of agents, a Nightforce, for his deadly missions. Service with the Nightforce does not always bode well for one's personal safety. It is the Mansion that is his true power base, no person may entre the mansion without the Baron's invitation and once inside the visiter is strongly reminded not to stray. The doors inside the Mansion are more likely to open onto a far off jungle that a bedroom...

BATCAVE
What is popularly referred to as the Batcave is not actually a single cave but a rather a large cave system that runs the full extent of the grounds of Wayne Manor. It was first encountered by a young Bruce Wayne when he fell into it as a child. The bats that made their home in the cave (and one particularly large bat) would serve as the inspiration for the costumed identity of the Batman. When Wayne later needed a base of operations he blasted an access tunnel from Wayne Manor down to the cave system. The larger central cavern would become a general purpose hanger, garage, trophy room and workshop. Other facilities included extensive gym equipment, the famous Bat Computer and storage for a number of different Batmobiles.

The only people who originally knew about the cave were Wayne and his man servant Alfred Pennyworth, this has been extended over time to include three Robins, Batgirl/Oracle and Superman. A few others have been to the cave while blindfolded and the criminal Bane broke Batman's back there. When working with the JLA Batman mainly stays in the cave and provides tactical advice. He also has his own purpose built teleporter unit which is not traceable via the normal JLA teleportational channels.

When Gotham City was hit by its recent earthquake the Batcave was badly damaged. Wayne later bulldozed Wayne Manor into the cave when Gotham was shut off by the US Government. The actual state of the original Batcave is now a mystery. Batman once used another "batcave" under the Wayne Foundation building in the centre of Gotham and now uses a series of hidden Batcaves dotted around the ruins of Gotham.

BELLA REVE
Bella Reve is one of the older meta-human prisons run by the United States government. It is a purpose built facility deep within Louisiana swampland. For a time is served as the base for the government sponsered Suicde Squad and supplied many of the criminals that served with that group.
BERTRON
The geneticist who taught the Kryptonians the science of genetic engineering. He was the creator of Doomsday and was eventually killed by his own creation.
BIRTHING MATRIX
The Birthing Matrix was a technology developed by the Kryptonians that allowed gestation of a foetus outside of the womb. Highly resilient and radiation proof, the Matrix is capable of surviving a journey through hyperspace. The Matrix sent by Jor-EL to Earth contained his son Kal-El. It crash landed on the Kent farm and opened revealing the infant inside. Kal-El's Matrix contained a holographic memory bank that contained all of Jor-El teachings on the planets culture and history which played itself back into Kal-El's mind teaching him instantly about Krypton. That Matrix is currently stored in the Fortress of Solitude.
BLACK ZERO
I) A radical off shoot of the Kryptonian Clone Rights Movement. They were responsible for the destruction of Kandor and the start of the Clone War. Led by Ran-Z it was their doomsday bomb that caused the eventual destruction of Krypton.

II) A hypertime varient of Superboy. He is a version of Kon-El that was grown to adulthood folling the death of Superman (the only one known). For a time he became Superman II on his world before public rejection made him base a new identity on the ancient Kryptonian radical Clone Rights Movement. He took over Project Cadmus on his world and with the help of Metron (who saw the entire exercise as an experiment) proceeded to cross Hypertime, invading and taking over worlds where he thought that clones (or Genetix as he called them) were under threat. He was stopped by a collition of Superboys and the Challangers of the Unknown.

BLIMP
Rotund member of the Inferior Five, son of Freedom Bridage member Captain Swift.
BLOOD GEM
The Blood Gem is the mystical gem that serves as the source of power for the sorcerer Bloodwynd. It is actually a pocket dimension confined inside a large red blood coloured gemstone that he wears on his chest. It was forged by slaves who sought revenge against the "owner", his soul was trapped within the gem dimension and would later become the monster Rott.
BOOM SUIT
Teleportation technology related to the Boom Tude as used in the 853rd century.
BOOM TUBE
An artifically generated wormhole used for mass transist and personal transport by the New Gods. Boom Tube are so named because of the large energy release generated when one is called. Originally invented by Metron they reley on an element called the X-Element as part of their initiation process. They can link any two places of normal space and have demonstrated the ability to cross dimensions (Boom Tubes are one of the few methods to getting to the New Gods's dimension). They are normally generated and controlled by a Mother Box.
BRAINWAVE JNR.
Henry King Jr. was the son of the Golden Age heroine Merry Pemberton (the Girl of 1000 Gimicks) and the super-villain Brainwave. He was a rare mutant actually born with superpowers unlike most possessers of the meta-gene. With a number of second generation heroes he founded Infinity Inc and used his telepathic powers to battle evil. For a time he had a crush on fellow team member Jade. However things started to go wrong for King when his father bestowed him with all his own vast telepathic powers. While he initially seemed okay, the massive burden of those powers started to eat away at him.

Unfortunately the power corrupted him and he slipped down into insanity. He created a group of second string villains including a reanimated Major Force and a robotic Gorilla Grodd and called them the Legion of Doom. They were easily defeated by a Justice League spin-off group lead by Captain Atom. After that King was taken into protective custody and started treatment. This was secretly paid for by former Green Lantern, Alan Scott, who sought to keep King's madness away from his daughter Jade.

BRUBAKER, SCOTT
Scott Brubaker along with Clark Kent and Pete Ross was a star of the Smallville Giants football team. Normally the town and country kids didn't mix but Scott was different, a likable guy. One night he was at a party with Kent, Ross and Lana Lang when they decided to leave, he agreed to drive them home against Kent's protestations that Scott had had to much to drink. On the way back their car hit a tree. While the other three passangers where unharmed Scott was left in a vegatative state. At the time Kent (secretly Kal-El of Krypton) was still developing his superpowers and blamed himself for Scott's condition. Scott's parents eventually went to court and got a judgement that allowed them to turn off their son's life support machines and let him die with dignity.
