They perfected cloning and genetic manipulation to order long before the technology was publicly known. The project itself is based in an underground fortress just outside of Metropolis. For a time rogue scientist Dabney Donovan worked for Cadmus and created the DNAliens (including Dubbliex) before faking his own death. Later Cadmus would be responsible for the creation of Superboy under the directorship of Paul Westfield. An entire series of secret scandals over the ethics and policies of the Cadmus authorities forced the Whitehouse to replace the directors of the project with Micky Cannon and a smaller group of section heads. During the recent Hourman Virus incident the Project deciced to go public and try and make itself more open. Superboy (himself a clone of former director Westfield) currently serves as the Project's field agent.
- CALATON AND THE RADIANT
- Calaton was one of the most beautiful planets in the Galaxy until it was attacked by Doomsday. The ruling royalty of Calaton gave up their lives to release their unique metahuman energies. These energies were then transformed into the artificial entity called the Radiant. Doomsday had no defence against this energy being and was eventually defeated. The Calatonians gave Doomsday a burial in space and went back to rebuilding their world. Centuries later Doomsday returned to Calaton, a second Radiant was created to battle him but Doomsday had evolved and killed this new champion. She then created a series of Chillblaines with the Captain Cold equipment with each of them quickly being defeated by the Flash (Wally West). The final Chillblaine was wise of her scheme and killed her after he received the equipment. He was in turn killed by his allies Abra Kadabra and Polaris because he was a liabilitiy to their plans.
- CHRONOPOLIS
- There are places that exist outside of normal space and time, some are the realms of gods, others are islands of stability in the chaos of the timestream. Two such places are known to be accessable to experienced time travellers. One is the Vanishing Point of the Linear Men, the other is the city of Chronopolis. The exact origin and nature of Chronopolis is largerly unclear. While its existance seems to be an open secret amongst certain circles. Those that know of its existance include Baron Winters, Chronos II, the Goodfellow Travelling Theatrical Troupe, Countress Fiorella and her various associates.
While travel to Chronopolis is possible for a time traveller who knowns of its precise location outside of the time stream it is also possible for non-time travellers to gain enterance via the Trans-Avant Garde, the so called "ghost train of time" which was discovered by a Nightforce team in the ruins of 25th century Metropolis. What awaits the visitor at his destination is a bizarre city of Victorian glass and steel design run by the the creature Gravesend.
- CLERIC, THE
- The mysterious Cleric belonged to a race of aliens that visited Krypton approximately two hundred thousand years ago. He preached the teachings of the Divine Deity and was responsible for the genesis of the Clone Rights Movement on Krypton. He established a ministry there but left with a number of his supporters after the Great Purge. However the genetic flaw introduced by Kem-L killed his followers as they left the planet. For thousands of years the Cleric wandered the galaxy acting as guardian of the Eradicator. He was eventually captured by the slavers of Warworld and imprisoned on one of their prison asteroids.
The Cleric remained in his prison until he encountered Kal-El, the last Kryptonian, who was on an extended exile from Earth. The Cleric handed over the Eradicator to Kal-El and then died, his mission done. He was buried on that prison asteroid. A projection of the Cleric from the mind of the now humanoid Eradicator in the Phantom Zone revealed the true origin of the All and the Eradicator.
- CLONE RIGHTS MOVEMENT
- The Clone Rights Movement began with the teachings of Sem-M on Krypton. It started as a pacifist movement but developed over time into a major political force. Off branches of the Movement preferred to picket the Clone Banks and hospitals where Clones were used. Supporters of the Movement were often referred to as "Clonies". Eventually the Clone Rights Movement formed such a large force that they rebelled against the ruling authority and started the civil war called the Clone War. During this time radical groups split off of the main Movement these included Black Zero.
- CLONE WAR, KRYPTONIAN
- One of the deciding periods in Kryptonian history, it saw the end of the age of art and culture and saw in the start of the age of pure emotionless science. The war between the Science Council and the Clone Rights Movement destroyed almost the total eco-system and left the planet a scared ruin right until its death.
- COAST CITY
- Coast City was a west coast city situated just north of San Francisco. It had a population of a round seven million and was famous for its relaxed lifestyle. Coast City was also the main base for Ferris Aircraft and is perhaps more famous for being the hometown of Green Lantern Hal Jordan. Tragically Coast City was destroyed by Mongul and Cyborg II in their plan to turn Earth into a new Warworld. The loss of his home city unbalanced Hal Jordan and was part of the path the led to him becoming Parallax.
The remains of the city served as the location for a memorial service to Jordan after he gave his life to save the Earth from the Sun-Eater. The land was cleansed and returned to lush paradise by the elemental Swamp Thing. The sole remaining man made structure in the region is an eternal emerald flame just off the coast that serves as a memorial to the seven million residents killed by Mongul and to the sacrifice of Hal Jordan.
- CONDUIT
- Kenny Braverman was born in Smallville at the precise time that Superman's rocket ship passed overhead. Embedded within the tail section of the craft was a chunk of Kryptonite (the only recorded sample on Earth). Radiation from this element had a lasting effect on the Braverman child. Kenny excelled at sports between bouts of radiation sickness but he was always in second position behind Clark Kent (who did not yet know of his own powers). Kenny was always the second fastest in Smallville, the silver medal holder and runner up so over time he began to resent Clark. The final straw came when Kenny found that Lana Lang had turned down his invitation to the school dance to go with Clark instead. Kenny snapped and began a hatred and quest for vengeance against Kent that would plague the rest of his life.
Braverman volunteered for military experiments to fully explore his meta-gene while conducting foreign assignments for the security services. While on one of these assignments he encountered Kent again (mere months before he became Superman) while in Paris. In due course Braverman's meta-gene (which had been activated by the Kryptonite radiation years ago) allowed him to radiate and shoot powerful beams of Kryptonite radiation. Becoming the supervillain Conduit he staged a carefully laid plan of attack against Clark Kent attempting to destroy everything that Kent held precious. After repeated failures to kill Kent Braverman deduced that Clark Kent and Superman were one and the same. This only prompted Conduit to further attack Superman. During the finally battle with Superman his powers overloaded and killed him.
