from my 1996's Trip ![]() |
In February, 1995 we traveled to the U.S.A. for our vacation. We first went to Villa Rome, Callicoon, some 200 km away from New York City. It is a mountain place, ideal to practice Winter's sports. From our Apartment we could see the ski track, as seen in this photo. Mostly of the snow is natural, but they maintain the track with the proper snow thickness with some machines, as you can see in the photo of the right. The rain that the machine generates reaches some 40-50 meters and while falling, due to the cold temperature, it becomes ice or snow. What a noise!...
From Villa Rome we went by car to New York, to meet some of the fascinating places that this City has. Now I understand why New York is called "the Center of the World!"
In the next picture I am photographed close to the base of one of the buildings of the World Trade Center (the Twin Towers with a height of 110 floors). It was so cold!!... The mechanisms of the Video and the Photo Cameras were blocked, by the low temperature. The sight from the 110 floor is spectacular, in this case looking in the direction of the Bridges of Brooklyn and Queens which cross the East River.
The Winter Garden, is between the Twin buildings in a tall glazed Gallery, full of trees and with many very associated Restaurants. After that we traveled by Ferry the same route that Melany Griffith does in the movie Executive Secretary. In the return path we were quite close to the Statue of Liberty.
And here we are next to the Metropolitan Theater, where the most important presentations occur. It was 10 am and the people went to Opera, dressed with evening clothes!. In the photo on the right, we are back in Villa Rome, behind you can see a neighboring town called Jefferson.
We did so many things on that vacation!... From New York we flew to Orlando. We went there to Universal Studios, Epcot Center, Pleasure Island, Cappone's Restaurant, etc. We spent so many days that it perhaps deserves to be related in another Page, to share those memories with you. I'm thinking about it, just come back and see...
