America

During
XIII America and Spain Postal Union Congress held at Havana, Cuba in 1985, was decided the emission of postal stamps with a comon theme: "AMERICA". This project was ratyfied during the Havana Colloquy in June, 1988, finishing details with collaboration of twenty member countries of the Union. First "AMERICA" stamps were issued in 1989.
Among the objectives that inspired the American and Spain Postal Union (UPAE) to issue "AMERICA" stamps are mainly: the search of greater regional integration among its members, using as a vehicle the postal stamp with the aim to show the world our cultural, social and economical activities; awake up interest in stamp collecting to national levels, increase the world philatelic market and identify the America and Spain Postal Union (UPAE) through its member countries with the "AMERICA" postal stamps.
