Chapter 4: The First Battle

Again Brian Realized he was in the strange other world. Frantically looking
around, he realized with great relief that he was indeed carrying his staff with him.
“Whew” Brian exclaimed out loud. Just then he noticed he was on the outskirts of
Felanya’s town. He decided that, since he wasn’t really a stranger anymore, he could just
walk in. So he did.
“Brian!” a voice exclaimed. He turned around and, sure enough, there was
Felanya.
“Oh, I see you brought your staff this time!” she exclaimed.
“Yes, I did. I can use my magic and hopefully kill that monster that’s been
terrorizing your village!” said Brian.
“Really? You can? We’d really appreciate it if you did!” Felanya seemed to be
extremely excited at the idea of being rid of the monster.
“Well, if you point me in the right direction I can try. That’s why I brought my
staff. Oh, and before I go, could you tell me exactly what kind of place he lives in?”
“There’s a mountain range to the east of our village, he always flys off toward it
after he attacks. We don’t know exactly where he goes to.” Felanya replied.
“Well then, I guess I should start off, then.” said Brian, beginning to walk away,
but Felanya stopped him.
“Hold on just a minute, I have to get something for you.” Felanya said, going back
into her house. Several minutes later, she came back out holding a parcel. “You will need
something to eat, you know.” she said.
“Oh, thanks.” Brian replied, starting off again.
Brian walked for about a half hour before reaching the mountains. It wasn’t long
before he noticed a cave.
“I guess this is where the monster lives.” thought Brian. “And if he is in this cave, I
can’t use my Return spell and get back to Lingora if the battle goes poorly...”
And so he walked into the cave. In the darkness, he could barely see anything.
Suddenly a giant fireball flew by, barely giving Brian enough time to get out of the
way.
“Well Brian, you wanted light, you got it!” Brian thought as morre fireballs shot
by. “Yes, someone is trying to kill me!”
Brian finally reached the end of the cave and saw the monster who was shooting
the fireballs at him.
“In......tru......der.....” the thing growled in a gravely voice.
Brian didn’t waste any time. He figured that since the monster used fire, he should
use water against it and cast Walking Water. Apparently the monster was hurt.
“Gran.....hurt....Gran....hurt....in....tru...der!” it shrieked, grabbing Brian by the
throat.
“Acccckk...” Brian choked. Summoning all his strength, Brian swung his staff and
managed to bop the creature on the head, causing it to drop him to the floor.
“Gran......KILL!!!” the monster roared.
Brian suddenly noticed the large claws of the creature, which it happened to be
swinging right at him! Brian tried to roll out of the way, but the creature managed to get
three large cuts into Brian’s arm.
“Ahhhh....” Brian screamed in agony, only the fact that he was waking up cut off
his scream.
