4-24-00: Two Different
"Home Stretches"
The first "home
stretch" is the Antioch forumers map, currently on the front
burner of things to do during free time. It is coming along very
nicely, and should be done by the end of the week. After that, I
will go back into SpecOps work full-time (in my free time,
anyway).
The other stretch is school. This is my last full week of regular
classes. Then I have finals the second half of next week and
Monday the 8th and then I am DONE!! :) So if I can just stay
alive until then, SpecOps will be on the front burner not only of
my free time, but of ALL my time. The only other thing really
tugging at my time after that will be work at Outback, but even
that will be lessened. :) :) :)
Now, the bad news. Since this is the end of the semester at
school, I need to get my eye on the ball and really knuckle down
with schoolwork. Not to say that I am doing poorly in
school...I'm actually doing pretty well. And not to say that
SpecOps is on hold until the 8th...I will still have little
snipits of free time and I will still work on it. But I am
probably not gonna have any major news to talk about until school
is out.
The other bad thing is that Mason has disappeared. I know where
he is...he's at home (his school already let out...the
lucky....). Problem is, his computer there is shot. Until it's
fixed, he's gonna be unable to do anything for SpecOps (or Common
Foe or ANYTHING SC-related, for that matter). I am gonna have
Phoenix do what he can until Mason returns (which should be in a
few weeks), but this is gonna slow things, probably.
Until Mason gets back, the staff and I will do the non-technical
stuff, like mapwork and portraits and sounds. And then hopefully,
when he gets back, we will have finished almost everything
non-technical, and he and Phoenix can do the tech stuff and
Episode I (and the groundwork for the other two episodes) will
FINALLY be done. So I guess you could even say that we're on the
home stretch for Episode I, though that is still a longer tunnel.
(Tired of the metaphors yet? :P )
Until next time, this is Seawolf, signing off.
4-18-00: Where We Stand
I said in the last news post
that I would let you all know where we are right now, so here
goes. (Please note that in some cases, I haven't talked to these
guys for a few days, so this is where they were at last check.)
Mason and Phoenix are hard at work doing a whole load of stuff. I
have asked them to try and do several things no one has tried
before with StarGraft, and if they can pull even half of it off,
you can expect to see some pretty cool things in SpecOps. :)
Their top priority is the patch for the Demo 2.0, the MPQ for
Project O2 and the Demo 2.0, and other such stuff. Mason is also
working on the voice for Nelgala. They've got lots to do, but
they're moving right along.
Derlin and Zareiff are currently giving Brockman a little plastic
surgery, touching up his portrait so it's less
"wobbly". Then they're doing the portrait for Nelgala
and a few others for Episode I. Derlin is also working on the
voice for Kauflin.
Calydor is working on the voice for Vic Kaldor.
I am working on the music for the Demo 2.0 and Project O2, as
well as touching up the Terran map in the Demo 2.0. I am also
working on perfecting the "finished" maps for Episode I
and doing mission briefings for all of them (something I haven't
done until now).
That's about it, really. I need to get back to schoolwork now, so
I guess I'll just leave it at that. Until next time, this is
schoolwork-weary Seawolf, signing off.
4-13-00: Can't Keep A
Good Man Down
I just got through a VERY
"schoolwork-heavy" week. My last class of the week is
over and the last big project for the week is turned in. It's a
good feeling.... :)
But I wasn't feeling at all good the past few days. I had no less
than four major projects due this week...two programming
projects, a massive webpage fo my HTML class, and a 10-page
research paper for English. And I lived to tell about it. :P But
needless to say, SpecOps work suffered.
But it doesn't like it matters much anyway. For those who haven't
seen already over at Common Foe, Mason's server isn't gonna be up for about a
month. But on the plus side, he and I were chatting with Ri, the
guy that's "donating" the server, in mIRC the other
night, and he surprised us both by saying that it was gonna be 9
GIGS of space...much more than Mason was expecting. :) And
better still, I might be getting my own domain name out of it.
How does www.SpecOps.com sound? :)
Once the server is up, I am gonna try my hardest to a few things
ready to put up on it: Project O2 and the Demo 2.0 are top
priority for th new server, of course, but on top of them I hope
to finally put up a SpecOps forum. :) I already have a program
for it that uses Perl (the same one that CC and Antioch use :P ),
but it won't work on Geocities. Also, look for a SpecOps soundtrack
sometime in the not-so-distant future. :) (Though probably AFTER
Episode I is out.)
One other little thing...I moved all news and updates prior to
Febuary into the old news
and old updates sections.
Anyways, that's about all for now. I will post some details on
exactly where the team and I are progress-wise shortly. Until
then, this is Seawolf, signing off.
4-6-00: ...And Even
MORE Work....
Schoolwork continues to plague
me, though so far I'm surviving and still managing to get SpecOps
work done. Today I focused on Project O2, and I'm happy to say
that aside from fixing the "Brockman wireframe" bug,
it's done. I have also finished the mapwork (completely
bug-free now) for both maps in the Demo 2.0, and I finished the
new briefing and most of the sounds for the first (Terran) one.
Only a few days worth of work on my end are left.
But there are a few things I'm waiting for. Mason is gonna be
voicing Nelgala, and if I can get it right, I will voice Alvar
(meaning 2 new voices!). Also, as I said before, I am waiting for
server space from Mason, as well as a StarGraft patch from him
and Phoenix for the Demo 2.0.
Episode I is still undergoing work, too. Zareiff sent me some
portrait samples and Calydor sent some sounds samples, and I like
them all. Phoenix and Mason continue work on StarGraft stuff for
Episode I. As for me, I'm still picking away at mapwork and
getting musical tracks properly edited for use in the episode.
Nothing much new, but I just wanted to let you all know we're all
still hard at work, despite school and stuff. :P
Until next time, this is Seawolf, signing off.
4-2-00: ...And MORE
Work....
As hoped, I got quite a bit
SpecOps work done this past weekend, mostly on Saturday. I
focused on Episode I (in which I all but finished [finally...just
gotta do the briefings still] two of the maps [and worked a bit
on a couple of the others, particularly my least-developed desert
map]) and sounds (in which I did some work on the sounds for the
Demo 2.0 and Episode I's first mission).
An announcement I don't think I've made yet: Mason has promised
SpecOps 300-400 MB of space on a new server he is getting, and it
outta be ready in a week or two. :) What this means is that I'm
waiting at least until then to put up Project O2 and the Demo 2.0
(which will probably be 5-6 MB each), so I have been devoting
time to Episode I instead, for which I am shooting for an early
summer release. Then I hope to have Episode II out by early/mid
fall and Episode III out sometime around Christmas. But with the
summer coming up, I'm gonna have a lot more time than I do now,
so for once, I might be OVERestimating how long it will take. :)
What I really wanted to say is this: for the first time since
this past fall (when I was being extremely naive), I can see the
light at the end of the tunnel. Things are really coming
together: the staff and I are making very good progress on
Episode I. The plotline for all three episodes has been finalized
(though minor little changes are sure to occur), and the missions
are planned out all the way up until halfway through Episode III.
The characters have been decided (there will be 5, maybe 6, new
heroes introduced in Episodes II and III), as well as what we
want to do with them in the story and, for the most part, in
Stardraft/StarGraft/etc.
We're working hard to make this happen. (Sounds like a slogan or
something, doesn't it? :P ) Thanks again for your patience,
folks...I just hope the end result proves worthy of it. Until
next time, this is Seawolf, signing off (and turning in).
3-28-00: Work, work,
and more work....
This past week was quite busy
with schoolwork, especially the weekend. I am currently finishing
off a C++ programming project, and then there are no more big
school projects on the horizon until next week. :) I am working
tomorrow, Friday, and Saturday, but I have time tonight and much
of the night Thursday (as well as daytime Friday and Saturday) to
work on SpecOps. I will be devoting equal time to "Project
O2" (the slightly-updated Project O) and the "Demo
2.0" (the heavily-updated prequel demo) and Episode I.
Things for the updated projects are coming along nicely. Phoenix
and Mason are making headway with the StarGraft and MPQ stuff.
Derlin has written a nice little installation program that makes
setting up the extra stuff (like sounds and portraits) a cinch. I
have fixed up the almost all the bugs I knew of (including the
infamous "never-ending Protoss map" bug and the obvious
"early rescue of Zeratul's fleet" bug in the demo
Protoss map) and cleaned up the in-game speeches and briefings a
bit. I still need to iron out a few trigger things that could be
done better and add/change sounds, but both projects are looking
very good so far.
So is Episode I. I have gotten back into some serious mapwork and
am completely redoing a couple of the maps. Those I am not
redoing I am cleaning up, and there are still a couple maps I
still need to get to the "alpha" stage. I also still
need to do most of the briefings and in-game conversations, but
Phoenix will be helping to write those things, so that won't take
very long. Sounds still need to be done, too, but I have already
started the music work and experiemting with some voice editing
effects. Probably everyone on the staff will be voicing at least
one character (meaning all three episodes, so probably not
everyone will be heard in Episode I), and as it is planned now,
Episode I will feature at least six or seven new voices
(including Brockman [which I have done but I am making better]
and Rond [which was done by Desler when he created the
character]).
The nutshell version: the staff and I are ALL hard at work on
something or another (except Calydor, who I still need to get
lines to). Phoenix and Mason are busy with StarGraft and other
tech stuff, Derlin and Zareiff are currently working on several
new portraits, Calydor will soon be starting voicing (as soon as
I get lines to him! :P ), and I am doing mapwork and sounds.
We've all kicked it into high gear, and are getting Episode I out
as soon as we can.
And a note for Episodes II and III...they will not take nearly
this long. A lot of the work we're doing on Episode I (like
Stardraft, StarGraft, portraits, sounds, etc. etc.) is stuff that
will be used for entire campaign, and will just need a little
tweaking in the future. A couple good months went "down the
drain" so to speak while I learned how to do Stardraft and
sounds and Phoenix learned StarGraft and Derlin and Zareiff
learned how to do portraits; lot of the time since this site went
up months ago has been used learning how to do what the campaign
requires. Obviously, we do not need to relearn it for the other
two episodes. About all that will need to be done for the other
two episodes is the mapwork and a couple new portraits and sounds
for new characters, as well as new music. So bascially, we've
been paving the way for all three episodes since this past fall.
So now that we've learned about everything we need to know, once
all the extra stuff is done and Episode I comes out, things will
move much more quickly.
Keep the faith, folks. Until next time, this is Seawolf, signing
off.
3-21-00: Project O
Arrives!!
We did it! After countless
failed attempts at uploading the map, Derlin and I brainstormed
and we came up with a winning ideas that, when combined, led to
the successful uploading of Project O.
Geocities kept saying that the file I was trying to upload was
too big. I knew from past experience that it could upload up to 3
MB at a time (that's how big the prequel demo was, and it
uploaded fine), and since the map was 5+ MB, I figured that if I
could just split it in half somehow, it should upload without any
trouble. So Derlin suggested a program called WinRAR, which is a
compression program similar to WinZIP. But unlike WinZIP, RAR
could split up files into equally-sized parts that could easily
be put back together later.
So I downloaded WinRAR last night, and tried it out, with him
guiding me through the process, and I split the map into FOUR
parts (not even sure how now, but that's not important :P ). I
then tried to upload all four at once, and Geocities gave me the
same error..."files too large to upload". So then I
tried uploading them two at a time, and the first couple times
Geocities had server trouble, and I couldn't do it. Then, the
third time, they went all the way through...but Geocities then
told me that the file extentions weren't supported (as WinRAR
uses unfamiliar .R00 and .RAR and .EXE extentions), so it failed
again. So THEN I put the RAR files into two ZIP files (two RAR
files per ZIP) and tried uploading one of the ZIPs while I went
to class. And when I got back to get ready for work, guess
what...it had uploaded!! :) But I was out of time to do anything
but start the other ZIP uploading, so that's what I did, and then
I went off to work. But when I got home, I saw that Geocities was
having server problems again, and the upload had failed. So I
tried again...no luck. And again...still no go. So I waited a few
minutes, and tried one more time...and it went through! I FINALLY
had ALL of Project O uploaded!!! :)
So my deepest thanks go out to Derlin. Thank him yourself,
folks... it's because of him that you have the map now (and
because of him and his brother that you have a new portrait! :P
).
Wait...what's that? You want the map? Oh...okay. :) There are
three ZIPs:
- ProjectOStuff.zip, which has the unit sounds, portraits, patch,
and other extra stuff (as well as an important readme you should
read)
- ProjectO1.zip, which has half of the map, and
- ProjectO2.zip, which has the other half. :)
Download all three and follow the instructions in the readme
files (one in ProjectOStuff and another one in both ProjectO1 and
ProjectO2) to set everything up. Oh yeah...go here to
get everything!
Now, about the next few days. Yes, the production update is still
on, but since I basically lost several days trying to upload
Project O, I have not made the headway on the rest of the stuff I
wanted to. So, the strategy and maybe one or two other little
things are gonna have to wait, probably until next week. However,
one thing I HAVE been working on (the little "bonus" I
got done between upload attempts) is the first SpecOps story. The
introduction is done, and you can go read it in the new stories section. I will put the rest up, chapter by chapter, as I
finish it.
And there's a second bonus, too...some more screenshots in the screenshots section! :)
Now, a little warning ahead of time. Since I spent almost the
entire past four days trying to finish and upload Project O, not
only did I not get much other SpecOps work done, I also didn't
get much SCHOOLWORK done. I finished everything due the next
couple days, but I have a couple big computer programming
projects coming up the next couple weeks that I need to make some
serious headway on THIS week. So I MAY be prone to running a few
days on end without updating the site, but I will continue to do
stuff (like writing the story). Like I said, just a warning.
Okay, folks. You're probably tired of me talking, so I'll let you
go and enjoy Project Overmind (bet you all were wondering
what the "O" stood for :P ). Please e-mail me
and let me know what you think of it.
Until next time, this is Seawolf, signing off.
3-20-00: SOOOO
close....
Well, I finally figured out (with LOTS of help from Derlin) how to get Geocities to accept the 5 MB map...I split it up into four parts. I am uploading them one at a time, and will not get a chance to finish them until tomorrow. As soon as they're up, I will put up the links to them and a little surprise I cooked up between download attempts today! Until tomorrow, this is Seawolf, signing off.
3-17-00: Right On
Track....
I know, I know...TECHNICALLY St.
Patrick's Day is over, but this is my site and I want to say it's
still on and make the color green, darn it! :)
I just wanted to let you all know that checking tomorrow for
Project O will be a good idea. Zareiff informs me that the
new character portrait is done...all that remains is for Derlin
to scrunch them into smack files and send them to me, which
should occur tomorrow morning. The sounds are almost done...I
just have another file or two to work on and then that's done.
The actual mapwork has been done for a couple days now, so all in
all, there are only a couple hours worth of work left. Unless an
asteroid crashes through the window and destroys my computer or
something, I will be putting everything together and finishing
Project O for good tomorrow morning/afternoon. The only problem
is that I have to work tomorrow night, so it's possible that I
will not have time to actually post before I have to leave...I MAY
have to upload and post it tomorrow night after work, which would
be in the early morning hours (like 1 or 2). But whatever
happens, Project O will be up sometime in the next 24 hours.
So until tomorrow, this is Seawolf, signing off (and going to bed
:P ).
3-15-00: The Update:
Extended For Extra Savings! :P
No, I'm not pushing anything
back. I just wanna announce a couple more little details on the
project and the update to wet your appetites. Project O will
still be released this week, though to put a couple extra goodies
in, I am now shooting for a slighty-later-than-originally-planned
Saturday release. The map will have twice the number of heroes as
the "original" (no, I'm NOT telling how many there
originally were :P ). I have added a little to what both you and
the computer player(s) start with to speed things up a little
bit. The mission will feature the original audio briefing and
in-game speech (with only one conversation omitted, to save
space) as well as incorperating some NEW in-game speech. Expect
some new music as well. :)
Now, as far as the update goes...it's being extended. There's two
more big things I want to add to the site that I simply can't get
done by week's end. So NEXT week, look for a new strategy and a
new STORY. That's right...I will be writing the first
SpecOps short story for you all to enjoy (blame it on Zeus over
at Antioch
for inspiring me. :P ). More details later.
Now, a little something to enjoy NOW...Brockman speaks! :) I have
finished Brockman's voice, and have a couple little samples here and here for
you all to enjoy. :) This is the first "version" of the
voice, and is likely to be quite different (a.k.a. BETTER :P ) in
Episode I and beyond, but for my first-EVER attempt at something
like this, I'd say it's pretty decent. :)
One other little thing...I moved the news from December into the old news section and the updates from then into the old updates section.
That's all for now, folks. Keep checking back for little
surprises...Project O, the strategy, and the story are not all
that's left in the coming days! :) Until next time, this is
Seawolf, signing off.
3-8-00: SpecOps' First
"Production Update"
Well, The Antioch Chronicles has
inspired me once again. Their recent production update has gotten
me thinking about how little I have actually put up on the site
the past couple months. So, get ready for MY first big update. :)
Unlike Auspex and company do over at Antioch, I am not going to
put up a ton of stuff all in one day. Instead, I will be updating
steadily over the next few days. What will I put up? How about
some screenshots (FINALLY)? How about the rest of the patch info?
How about a new strategy? How about another prequel map?!
:) Look for these things and more from now until the middle
(maybe end) of next week.
So what's this map that is coming out of the blue? For now, I'm
calling it Project O; it's not an original map...completely. I'll
say this much: it's a Blizzard campaign map (not saying which
one) that will feature two SpecOps heroes (including the hero(es)
originally in the map), one of which will have a new portrait (if
it can be finished in a week or so) and full new unit sounds
(which I will work hard to finish in a week or so). It will also
have some other new surprises (not gonna tell what!) that will
make it unique from the original map and not seem like just a
"been there, done that" experience. It's gonna be
sweet, folks.
And what of Episode I itself? Well, Antioch has inspired me
there, too...to throw myself at it with new fervor (is that
spelled correctly?). I confess, while I never lost the urge to
finish Episode I, I have not gotten as much done the past couple
months as I could have. That changes now. While site
updating will be the focus the next week or so, I will be working
steadily on the campaign on the side and, after the
"production update" is all said and done, Episode I
will get a LOT more attention than it has lately. I am sincerely
sorry it has taken this long, but I am gonna get the first
episode out as soon as I possibly can.
The upcoming updates and new site features are my way of saying
"thank you" to you all, who have as of yet to offer one
complaint. Thanks for your understanding and your seemingly
bottomless patience...it means a lot. Keep the faith guys, and
until next time, this is Seawolf, signing off.
3-1-00: A Cry For Help
(sound desperate enough? :P )
Wow...March. I never
thought that this much time would go by and Episode I would still
be in the works. *sigh*....
Sorry it's been so long since the last update...I didn't realize
that much time had gone by. Didn't mean to leave you all hanging
since Feb. 16th....
Okay, down to business. After chatting with the rest of the
staff, it looks like I do need help in certain areas,
particularly sound and graphics. I would really appreciate some
help with the sounds, including meshing musical scores together
smoothly and editing voices to sound "Starcrafty" (like
adding static for a marine or changing the pitch for a good
dragoon voice and the like). And while Derlin and Zareiff have
portraits under control, I would love someone who can make unit
graphics...I would love to have a new unit graphic (or maybe even
two or three for variety) for the hybrids, and there may be a
couple more graphics things I would need. So if you have skill in
those areas, please e-mail
me and let me know.
That's about all for now, folks. Yes, I will redo the Zerg
patch info soon...I just haven't gotten to that yet. Been a
little busy (as always :( ). Until next time, this is Seawolf,
signing off.
2-16-00: This Is The Campaign That Has No End....
The more I work on Episode I, the more I realize how much is left to be done. I still need to do most of the sound stuff, a couple more maps, touching up of the maps I have "done", update the site regularly...in short, I feel sometimes like I am in WAY over my head. And I originally hoped to have the first episode out by Christmas...what was I thinking?
1-24-00: Goodbye Valiruc, Hello Graphics Brothers
Well, I never heard back from Valiruc, so as much as I hate to do it, I'm dropping him from the staff. If he gets back to me at a later date and has a REALLY good excuse why he dropped off the face of the earth (like, his computer fell out his window or something), I will probably let him come back, but I highly doubt that will happen.
1-19-00: Some GOOD News For A Change....
Yes, you read that right. I know I haven't exactly been a fountain of glad tidings lately.... :P
1-17-00: Pressing Forward...
...even though the opposition pushing back keeps on increasing. My little reliable '85 Toyota Corolla is finally showing its age, and pretty much the entire front end needs rebuilding. All in all, it carries a hefty price tag of $13,000...not exactly the kinda cash I just carry around, you know? So needless to say, I am going to have to work more to amass that kind of money. I will be working four or five days a week on top of taking 16 credits worth of classes at college. Yuck.
1-12-00: Down, But Far From Out
Bad news, everyone. Valiruc has gone missing. I haven't heard from him since December 21st, though I have e-mailed him several times since then, especially recently. I am still clinging to hope that he will magically reappear with the work I left him finished, but that glimmer of hope is fading. I am left to assume he no longer has the time or the interest to assist, so until I hear back from him (assuming I do), I am gonna be taking on the extra duty of working on sound stuff. I will give Valiruc a little while longer to reply, but if I don't hear from him soon, I will attempt to replace him.
1-3-00: Happy New Year; "Contest" Winner
Happy New Year, everybody! No, it's not a new millenium yet...wait until next year. :)
12-29-99: Whistle While I Work
Man, I am running out of good news post titles, huh? :P
12-24-99: Work Continues
Oops! For some reason, I thought I had updated the news Monday saying I was back, but I see that's not the case...doh! Sorry, everyone...I'm back and have been working.
12-18-99: Gone Fishin'
I am going out of town this weekend to pick up my "special friend" ( :P ) at college. It's a six-hour drive, so I am gonna stay overnight and not get back until tomorrow night. Probably won't get back to SpecOps until Monday.
12-16-99: FREEDOM!! :) (Kinda)
Yes, I survived the finals! I know my teachers were out to get me (as all teachers are out to get their students), but I overcame their wily ways! :)
12-12-99: PARANOID Man :)
I shoulda known it, but I had nothing to worry about with Phoenix. He was just busy, and wrote me via e-mail and ICQ on Friday. For those of you who haven't seen yet, he finished his first strategy, called The Zealous Zealot, which is up in the strategies section.
12-9-99: Invisibility Man
No, the title isn't refering to some new hero or something. :) Actually, I am starting to wonder if I have become invisible.
12-5-99: Full Speed Ahead!
Episode I is going great. I am more than half done with the basic mapwork, and have finally nailed down what I think is gonna be the final storyline for the episode. I will definately be set by the late January deadline.
12-2-99: Back in the Saddle Again
Okay, after a rough week and a half of lots of schoolwork and seeing a good friend of mine over Thanksgiving (well, that wasn't rough...nevermind :P ), I am back in the swing of things. I still have a couple more projects due next week and then final exams the week after that, but I am gonna have a lot more free time from here on out than I have had lately. So Phoenix and I have split up duties, and I think I may have found a sound guy I am hire on board to start working on sound stuff, too. I've got mapwork back to full-steam while Phoenix is handling finding a server for the large downloads that Episode I will require and some sort of small forum program, something I have wanted since this site first opened and now intend to finally find and put up.
11-29-99: Still alive...
...and kicking. I know it looks like I am letting SpecOps slip through the cracks and die, but I assure you all, that is not the case. You may have noticed that just about all Starcraft sites have been kinda lacking on the updating thing lately, and I imagine it's the same reason I have fallen into the same scenario: the end of the semester approaches. That means big projects and finals. Yuck. It also means less time for fun stuff, like updating websites and working on Starcraft campaigns. Double yuck. So I have been devoting what little free time I have right now to Episode I mapwork, rather than the website.
11-18-99: Grrrrr....
I just can NOT get a patch going that doesn't crash the game! It's really strange...every time I try to upgrade anything while running the patch, the game crashes on me. It just doesn't make sense....
11-15-99: Demo 2.0, vanishing updates, and other stuff
Yes, I am going to release the bug-free version of the demo very soon. I thought I was gonna have it out this past weekend, but due to some differing results Phoenix and I had, I wasn't sure if the improved maps were ready or not, so I am gonna wait until we both agree that they work correctly. :P Couple more days on that....
11-6-99: Now What?
The demo is out, albeit a little buggy. I have already receieved some feedback about some little quirks (like that blasted "never-ending Protoss level" bug :P ) that I either missed or, yes, left a little sloppy to get it out in time. :) Sorry. In light of all this, I may release a 2.0 of the demo in the next couple weeks, but I'm making no promises about that. For now, just play through the first level without just plowing right to the end and just hunker down like you're really supposed to in the second level and things should work out fine.
11-3-99: Demo Update
The Terran map is done...yes, done. Mission briefing, in-game transmissions, all of it, done. The Protoss map I hope to work on tonight (after classes and work) and finish tomorrow. It just needs the mission briefing and basic map calistectics (sp.?) done. After that I just need to do the self-extracting CWAD that will accompany the maps, and that should only take me an hour at the most to make. I may try and finish up the Jay Brockman portrait (just the firebat port flipped, for now) before I release the demo, but I will probably just hold off until Episode I (I may have a custom port made for me by then, anyway, by a well-known portrait "master" who has offered to do it once he has enough time :) ). So it's looking like the demo will be up for release tomorrow night or, at the latest, Friday morning/afternoon. Just hold on for another day or two. Until the demo's out, this is Seawolf, signing off.
10-31-99: Happy Halloween; Demo Almost Ready!
Happy Halloween, everyone! Figured that the day called for a little color change.... :)
10-24-99: And now for something completely different....
Well, I have made some decisions recently that I figured you all might want to know about. :)
10-18-99: New Strat Section Opens; Demo News
Well, I got a bad cold for the second time in a month and a half this past weekend, which is weird since I am normally very healthy. But that robbed me of a weekend of work, which is when I get most of my SpecOps work done (if you notice, I do most of my sitework during the week). Work on the demo is coming along well, but unfortunately also slower than I anticipated. I will admit now that I am thinking of canceling the three-mission demo altogether so that I can focus on Episode I, but for now I am still gonna work on the demo and try to get it out ASAP. If worse comes to worse I will still release a one-map demo...I won't just leave you all waiting until Episode I. I'll keep you updated on all that, but for now...
10-12-99: Prequel Demo Update
Well, the map that I said before was "essentially" done has hit a snag. I can't figure out how to get a certain trigger to do what I want it to do, so it has robbed me of some time trying to figure it out. There are still a couple things I can try, but if I don't get it soon I'll just forget it and do something different in that map rather than delay the demo's release. I still hope to have it out in a couple weeks, especially now that I have started the other two maps. Just please understand that the demo is not gonna be super-flashy...I'm doing that on purpose so that A.) I can get it out to you all relatively quickly and B.) because the demo doesn't really call for flashy stuff (you'll understand better once I release it). It's gonna be more story than anything else, but don't worry...the missions will be playable and enjoyable.
10-7-99: Arctic Hunters Arrives!
For those of you who hadn't noticed yet, Arctic Hunters, my first and most popular (on Bnet amoungst those who have played it) multiplayer melee map is here for download! You can go get it in the new Maps section or right here, for you impatient ones. :)
10-6-99: Site Cosmetics and Arctic Hunters Update
Well, as I'm sure you returning visitors have noticed, I decided to go with frames on my page. If you see any errors or bad links or anything like that, please e-mail me and let me know about it.
10-4-99: First Download Soon!
No, not the demo, but that will be out soon (a few weeks). I'm talking about a Bnet-intended, multiplayer melee map I made a while back called Arctic Hunters. It's LIKE Hunters, but not just a lame edit of the badlands tileset version. I made this one from scratch. It's quite popular on Bnet, actually (at least, those who play it like it :) ). I hope to have that up REAL soon...maybe as soon as tomorrow.
9-28-99: Back From Vacation and Back to Work
Ah...that was a refreshing trip. I actually had a little time to get some work done on the campaign details while I was there, and I will be putting up those promised weapon and tech stats in the next couple days. They're not gonna be too exciting, but at least it's something new to look at.... :)
9-24-99: Future Updates
Well, the basic stuff is now up, but there are some more goodies coming in the next week or so, including some new weapon and tech stats, screenshots, pics, and a little basic "redectorating" of the site. I will probably not get anything done this weekend, as I am going up to see a good friend of mine at college, but you never know.... :)
In all likelihood, I will get back to updating and advertising next week. Until then...um...just keep reading what's here over and over. :) This is Seawolf, signing off.
