AREA 88'S CAST

Here are the character descriptions and histories of Area 88's cast. They are in order of appearance (as per the issues I have) for the most part.

Boris Mick Simon Shin Kazama McCoy

Boris (Deceased)

Voice: Tetsuaki Genda

"Once again I am the only survivor......"

Former pilot of the "Royal Airforce" (Asran's?), he's afraid to make new friends because he doesn't want to get hurt by the deaths of new friends. Cannot sleep with the lights off because it makes his past seep back. Killed in the attack against the rebel base that had The Fang when he took several slugs in through the intake. His last request to Shin was to turn off the lights in his room. Could smell McCoy's bad deals a mile away.

Mick Simon (Spelled Scymon in manga artwork, though it's actually a mistake on Shintani's part)

Voice: Kei Tomiyama

"So long, Tracy... We ARE living in two separate worlds..."

A New Yorker sent to Vietnam, Mick got so used to war that when he returned to America, he found that despite the efforts of his girl friend, Tracy and his family, he couldn't settle for a normal life of paper pushing at his father's company. Eventually, he joined the Asranny Mercenaries because he couldn't live without war. Though despite he's need for battle, he's actually one of the nicest guys on the base and has become Shin's best friend. Even though his trademark fighter is the F14 Tomcat, he doesn't actually GET the Tomcat until #25 and then loses it when he's shot down by the Mafia's Land Carrier. His logo is the Playboy Bunny with three pink hearts underneath.

Shin Kazama

Voice: Kaneto Shiozawa

"The Sun's going down... It's 20:30. All right, let's go!"

An orphan, Shin has always had some tragedy in his life. Though much to Kanzaki's displeasure, he's also had a considerable run of good luck as well. In fact, the best thing that ever happened to him was meeting and falling in love with Ryoko Tsugumo whose father just HAPPENS to be the owner of Yamato Airlines or YAL for short. Of course, Shin never planned on it, in fact he's FAR from being the scheming type, but fate just happened to through this nice bit of luck his way. Unfortunately, Kanzaki, Shin's former best friend, envied that Shin was ALWAYS one step of him. So in their last days of flight school in Paris, Kanzaki got Shin drunk and tricked him into signing a document which would get him sent to Area 88. Now, stuck at Area 88, killing men all day long and longing for Japan and Ryoko, Shin is often depressed. Though Mick and the antics of the other pilots occasionally cheer him up. Aside from that, he's just a good hearted guy who wants to go home. His trademark plane is the F8E Crusader which he loses when he tries to earn the last of his $1.5 million and ends up running out of ammo just before he can shoot down the last enemy plane. The plane shoots him down and he lost his Crusader. His logo is the Unicorn.

McCoy

Voice: Unknown

"Shin, lad. I see you are still alive and kicking today."

The weapons dealer of Area 88, he can sell anything to anyone at Area 88. From toilet paper to the latest military hardware, he can get for you almost anything, considering you have enough money. And while he seems to be a heartless money grubbing scoundral, he does have a heart and he's done some nice things for Shin for free. In the end, money might be the bottomline, but he's loyal to his friends, even if they're customers.
