Jackie Chan's one man war on a criminal gang has earned him a reprimand and demotion from the detective to traffic cop.
Continually harassed and provoked by the gang he decides to take a long-overdue vacation, but his leave is cancelled when Hong Kong is hit with a wave of bomb scares. Jackie unofficially follows up some leads of his own and tracks down the gang behind the bomb threats. Knowing Jackie is close to them they kidnap his girlfriend in order to force Jackie to turn against the police.
In a spectacular climax rivalling that of the record-breaking original, Jackie rescues the girl and brings the gang unceremoniously to justice.

As shown beneath the closing credits, Maggie Cheung suffered a major head injury while trying to outrun the falling metal girders. Unable to finish the film, you never see her face after this incident, and she is always shown from a distance.
