Our Favourite Links

This section lists some Bengali related links we found on the World Wide Web. The pages linked here can give you varying and differing perspective on the Bengali culture and phenomenon, hopefully complementing and enriching each other. Let us know what you think, or if you have a page to suggest for inclusion here.

Of course, the listing of these pages here does not constitute ratification or endorsement by NCBA of any views expressed in them. Explicit permission has not been seeked from the owners of any of these pages, in what we hope is the true spirit of the WWW community. However, we will remove any entry if we receive a specific objection from the owner of that page.

Calcutte On Line/NetGuru India

Calcutta is the capital of West Bengal, and one time capital of undivided Bengal. A city more than 300 years old, it has attracted over the centuries some of the best and worst of Bengal. It is fruitless to try to talk of Calcutta in anything shorter than a book (indeed there are hundreds of books trying to describe and analyze what Calcutta is), and we shall not try.

Calcutta Online used to be a privately run web site which did an impressive job of presenting the vibrant, alive entity that is Calcutta today. It has been absorbed by NetGuru India now, still includes the Bengali stuff.

Sandeep Mitra's Rabindranath Tagore page

Sandeep Mitra, from SUNY Brockport, has set up, among other things, a web page devoted to Rabindranath Tagore, possibly the greatest poet and philosopher that Bengal has ever seen; or maybe even the ancient land of India itself. Take a look at what he has gathered for you. There are many other places on the web you can find material on Tagore.

IndoGram

IndoGram is a portal listing Indian communities and organizations all over the USA, and facilitates pulicizing or advertising services or sites. As a non-profit organization, NCBA has a free listing there. Go look, you may find something of interest to you.

Bengali Language and Literature

This is a page maintained by Arghya Chatterjee from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, on Bengali language and literature. Arghya has other stuff on his web site, including a West Bengal page, and a page on Rabindranath Tagore. Go take a look!

Ask India

A huge archive of all things Indian, a really indispensable listing service. We think it is something of a cross between a web directory and yellow pages for Indian stuff. Take a look and decide for yourself.

Immigration Information from Amarnath Gowda

Considerations of green cards, visas, citizenships often take up a large part of the consciousness of Bengalis or generally Indians in the USA. This is a real issue and part of the Bengali-American psyche. We cannot help you with your problems or decisions, but there are people who can help you with the purely formalistic problems. Amarnath Gowda is one of the people who have set up their law offices on the WWW. Find out what he has to offer.
