We would like to update you on the minutes of the General meeting of NCBA held on March 15th, 1998.

The General Meeting of 15th. was attended by Subhash Banerjee, Mandira Chatterjee, Sudha Moy Dutta, Jaya Ghosh, Aditi Majumder, Jyotsna Moy Dutta, Kakali Chaudhuri, Rudra Dutta, Shampa Ghosh, Dulal Chatterjee, Sib Ghosh, Anupam Basu, Sumana Basu, Amrapali Basu, Tushar Ghosh, Surajit Chaudhuri, Sudip Dutta, Ananda Ghosh, Nil Ghosh, Jit Ghosh, Robin Chatterjee, Deb Chatterjee, Amalendu Chatterjee.

President Sudha Moy Dutta presided over the meeting.

Agenda for the above meeting:

1. Selection of new secretary for the year 1998
2. Rabindra Nazrul Jayanti
3. Preliminary preparations for Durga Puja
4. Annual picnic of NCBA

Highlights of the meeting:
NCBA expresses its special thanks to all participants, volunteers and attendees for making the Saraswati Puja a successful event. It was celebrated on February 1, 1998 at The Hindu Society of NC.

Aditi Majumder volunteered to be the secretary for the association.

Rabindra-Nazrul Jayanti will be celebrated on June 13th, 1998 at Binkley Memorial Baptist Church, 1712 Willow Drive, Chapel Hill, NC 27514. The Cultural Program will start at 6:30 P.M. followed by dinner. Please contact your local Member-at-Large to help with the program and food preparations. Please consider this newsletter as your invitation to the annual Rabindra-Nazrul Jayanti and be sure to attend with family and friends.

The annual picnic will be held on Saturday, August 15th. Venue for the picnic is still under consideration.

One of the dates for Durga Puja has been set for September 27, 1998 at Hindu Society of N.C. The other tentative date for Durga Puja is either October 3rd, or October 10th. We are still looking for an appropriate, spacious hall with a curtained stage. Information on this matter from members is highly appreciated.

We also remind you that the Executive members encourage group participation in programs, the goal being for all children to be involved within the time constraints. It is being seen that many of our youngsters are unable to take part jointly mainly due to their parental schedules. Therefore, as in the past, other than group performances, we will also have some solo performances during program. Those interested in participating in the cultural program should inform the Cultural Committee.

The newsletters published this year is not the opinion of any particular individual. It consists of information on meetings held and decisions taken by the Executive members or the General Body and events that occurred in the Bengali community and those that will occur.
