To kick off the new term, the Indian Cultural Society (ICS) Committee decided to organize a social tea-gathering for all Indian students within campus. The event was held on the 19th of September, 1997 at LT32 (Faculty of Science). We aimed to reach out to both the local and foreign Indian Students, especially those who had missed out on the Freshmen Orientation Program which was held earlier in the semester.

The evening was hosted out by the Mistress of ceremony, Rinta Mukkam, who gave an introduction of the events lined up for the evening. The first item was a Hindi Song, "Aaj Mein Oopar" by Padmini. This was followed by a speech by our President, Kanna Kannappan. He outlined the events ICS had planned for the academic year, 1997-1998.

We had Veena and Tabla recitals by members of the Center for the Arts (CFA) and more solos and duet songs by Padmini, Sreekanth, Smitha. Kalpana and Kanna. The program ended with a cheery finale song, "Made in India". Enthusiastic members of the audience joined the singers on stage. Those who were too shy to still clapped and sang along. It was a jolly ending to a pleasant evening.

Everyone then made their way to the little reception that we had prepared. The committee members made use of this opportunity to get to know the people who had come and to thank them for taking the time off to attend the gathering while enjoying the Vadai, cakes and drinks that were served.

We felt our aim was well met, and friends made. We hope that our friends are aware of the activities that we have lined up and that we can count on them for their support. To a successful and fulfilling year!
