Presenting: St. Barnabas Church Choir

Welcome

For those who would like to listen to some RealAudio while visiting
Vienna Online, we present
Florian Keller's "Classical Surfing Music," a showcase of broad talent.

The new St. Barnabas ChurchOur featured group of artists for this month is the St. Barnabas Church Choir, from London, United Kingdom. This choir produces a very special sound because men and women, boys and girls, all sing together!
Listen to Strengthen for Service, an a capella song by Paul Ayres (b.1970).

I'm partial to church choirs. I've sung myself in many churches, from Paris, France, to Santa Monica, California. Even if you're not religious, a church concert provides a totally different experience from everything else. And a church choir is the foundation for any church music.
St. Barnabas Choir
The St. Barnabas Choir sings at the regular services at their Victorian parish church, and has appeared numerous times on BBC TV and radio. To date there are three recordings available featuring the choir. In their diverse repertoire, the extensive collaboration with a group of living composers stands out.

In a peek behind the scenes, music director William McVicker tells me that 2001 will bring a lot of new excitement. The choir will sing parts of the very challenging masses by Francis Poulenc (d. 1963) and will purchase and perform the score of the requiem by Maurice Duruflé (d. 1986). They also hope to team up with the Magdeburg Cathedral Choir in Germany. Good luck!

Would you like to submit your musical talents as "Classical Surfing Music"? This is not a contest—every reasonable offer accepted ;o) If you are a composer, conductor, vocalist, instrumentalist, make music with a group or alone, amateur or professional, here is your chance for extra exposure!
Simply email Florian for any questions or with the URL of your file, and he'll take it from there.
